whistlebritches wrote: A good reason to avoid those truck stops. We too, use the Pen Fed rewards card and get the 5% off on gas and diesel. And, they take the amount right off your bill, so you don't have to wait for a check or get a gift card. We love it. We just don't buy fuel at places where you can't swipe at the pump. The fuel stations are making it harder and harder to fill up any more.
x2 on pen fed. I have yet to find at a station that I couldn't swipe at the pump. Yes, if your going over the $125 that is typical around here, you will need to swipe more than once, but no big deal for me. They credit your account for the months purchases before they send the bill, so you get the discount in advance of making payment.

Wow!...so much misinformation posted on here. First off, the Good Sam/Flying J venture offers a CHARGE CARD. They have been around for years. Has anyone ever heard of AMERICAN EXPRESS... ...they have had charge cards forever. Difference between charge cards and credit cards... ..Charge cards require full payment every month, whereas credit cards allow you to either pay in full or make a minimum payment and float the balance. Secondly, Flying J has a Frequent Fueler card available for FREE but it must be registered at any cashier before it can be used at the pump. Once registered, you pull up to the pump and swipe ONLY the FF card. The pump will verify your card then authorize you to pump. Once finished, pull forward out of the truckers way and go inside to pay, either cash, credit or charge card. Pretty simple. Once you swipe your FF card and it's verified, the price on the pump will automatically change to reflect your discount....IMHO..it's not rocket science... ... We use the PenFed card to pay after swiping the FF card at the pump....Dennis

Are you saying they are not asking for a social security number and bank routing number? If I choose to apply for a credit card or debit card I would furnish a social security number. A bank routing number???? Not a chance. Duh, why shouldn't I just post my bank routing number on the forum?

I have used the Pilot FF card for some time and was glad to receive the .03 cent per gallon discount on diesel. I was reluctant to apply for another "charge card". However, the .06 cents per gallon discount was too tempting. Can I get diesel cheaper somewhere else? Sometimes yes, but when hauling my fiver, I need the convenience of a truck stop and I'm not going to haul it around on surface streets looking to save a penny or two per gallon.
I applied for the charge card and was advised that I would receive a reply within a week. After two weeks went by, I called to inquire and was informed that due to the "OVERWHELMING RESPONSE", they were backlogged and it may take a month or more. Apparently not everyone out there thinks this is such a bad deal.
I applaud Good Sam for coming up with this deal. It's about time they did something besides fill my mail box with junk mail. However, I would rather see Good Sams take a stand against the high tax rate assessed on diesel fuel, when compaired to gas. These taxes are unreasonably high, especially when you consider that every commodity we use today was delivered by a diesel powered truck. These higher taxes drive up the cost of everything we use or purchase and drive up the cost of living.
By the way, what is a PenFed card?

Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Anyone can join, One of the cards they offer is the 5% discount on fuel purchases at the pump. No monthly or annual limit on fuel purchases for discount. A quick 0.15-0.20/gallon discount, applied each month to your purchase before the bill is sent out so you get the credit monthly.

PenFed issues a credit on your monthly statement for the reward total earned that month. No gimmicks, no fees. If you're not military, it costs $20 to join. Really hard to beat.

Yep we regularly bought bank routing numbers for bank verification purposes where I worked.
