This is what is happing up here in the oil patch. North Dakota is far from a bed of roses that some people think it is.

Not sure this is the right place to post it.

Wow, subfreezing weather in a Walmart parking lot must be really attractive to some.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

A whole lot of people are stampeding into the Dakotas. Wages of two or three times oil patch wages or many other fields are luring them.
Trouble is there is no housing. Modest accomidations are renting out for large sums. i can't correctly recount the numbers but it was a thousand a week instead of a thousand a month. Many were buying the fema units and others. The Companies are buying some of the units themselves. Water and utilities were not even available at some sites.
Williston Wal Mart and others have been dealing with this kind of thing for some time now.

Not to mention the number of people that are getting killed or injured out here in the oil patch, building construction or on the roads and most are not due to the weather. Sad to say it is not uncommon to here it every week.

I believe the media should not have made such a big "Promotion of all the employment up there. Just think if someone was giving $1000.00 to everyone and the media broadcasts it!!! Also if the oil people would have built housing for the amount of workers than it would not have created such a problem. I sure bet the ownwers who had housing available at inflated prices are over-joyed. And so it goes where the jobs are people will follow, especially in this lousy economy. JMO! Irover

This is more appropriate in ATC as it really doesn't involve rv'ing as a recreational activity.

We made a trip back home to North Dakota and Minnesota last fall and found out the hard way that it is virtually impossible to find a hotel along I-94 between Bismark and Billings which is about 400 miles.

As someone who grew up in North Dakota, I can tell you that most residents like the open spaces and the farmers out west aren't too keen about having hundreds of "outsiders" living in man camps all over the place.
