My insurance carrier asked me what I want to insure my tt for, I told them that I paid $8000.00 for a repairable with clear title. There response was to insure it for high retail at $26000.00 and that is what they will pay out in a total loss. Premium $75.00 per year, $50.00 comprehensive and $500.00 collision. Read my first post on this topic it says SF?, I had a gut feeling. You still should have window coverage even with this company. Flow on Progressive tells it how it is - NAME YOUR PRICE. Try to determine if you have an accident will it be the front or back of the motor home, next call SF and ask if you can save money .if you only insure that half! They may lower your rate 50%. A lot of items are included in most policies and by staying with one company for 20 years is not always the best idea. All policies change every year and you should shop them, this is your agents job. When you do have an at fault claim they will care less about your loyalty. I know a person who was with the same carrier for 30+ years and his son had a minor fender bender $2500.00 (first claim) and the carrier refused to renew his policy the next year. Charles

Knowing the cost of RV windshields, we specified $0 deductible glass coverage when we got our Progressive policy. $250 deductible on other comprehensive. Note to self - Probably ought to look at upping that deductible to see if we can save a few more bucks.

When I had a windshield replaced on our Bounder almost 4 years ago our insurance adjuster said that California did NOT have a no-deductible provision for windshield repair - it cost me the $500 deductible for the driver's side windshield. But I have no idea how things are done down in Cali (the city in Colombia)...

Most glass companies will waive a $50 - $100 deductible depending on their profit margin.

Well Gang,
I'll report what I already knew. Out SF insurance has a $1000.00 deductible on EVERYTHING! So, after the wife got off the phone with the agent, we had a list of about 3 companies that might, just might give us a break on the replacement of that windshield. In the mean time, I'd made a call to "Crack repair Doctor" for windshields. Based on one of you folks replies, I made an appointment to have this "crack" repaired.

Well, long story short, he stop-drilled the end of the crack, dremeled out the original chip, and dremeled out the entire crack. He then placed three of the suction units on it in a row, the crack at this was 13.5" long. Well, he worked his magic, added all the components and, as of now, that crack is almost all but GONE! The original chip only has a very tiny dot as evidence it was ever there.

I'm incredibly satisfied with his work. It cost us $105.00 for the job. It was up $10.00 because he had to travel from down town San Diego to our home in Ramona (about 32 miles) to do the job and back again. That's cheaper than it would be in diesel fuel to bring it to him just about and, way easier.

Oh, I almost forgot, I called RV Glass Solutions, one of the few suppliers of RV windshields in the U.S. and, they quoted me $11.00 shy of my guess for the replacement, $989.00, installed. I told him that as we were speaking on the phone, the crack was being repaired so, we'll be doing the replacement if, this crack, which, is warranted for life by the repair man to not travel. So, at this time, it's way less visible than it was, I saved $900.00 and we're both happy. I might just order up a TPMS for the coach now.

Thanks again for all your helpful comments. We think that we might just lower the deductible for comprehensive in the near future, just in case this happens again.

Dale the free repair I have seen starting to show up in more policies. I assume that the company figures cheaper to pay for a repair now and then rather than a whole windshield.

We are Florida Residents and the windsheilds are replaced, no deductible.
We have found that one should not follow close behind trucks and trailers and RV's that toss stuff into the air for one to run into.

One of the reasons we do not like to travel on interstates. To much speed and nutty drivers.

FIRE UP....Do a double check with your insurance....I have AAA and had a $1000.00 deductible. The first time I got a rock chip, I called to see if I could get windshield coverage for the future. They changed my comprehensive ONLY to $100.00 deductible for about $12.00 more a year. I didn't mind paying that since they were almost have the price of Progressive when they started raising everyones rates a few years ago. Old FLow can kiss my &%$.
