We're hauling south in March when none of the NE campgrounds are open. We're looking for a safe rest stop to overnight somewhere between Hartford and Northern NY.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Not much open that time of year,a few campgrounds along I95(Aces High is one and the KOA in mystic i think is another in CT) but It doesnt sound like your coming that way ,If your coming down 495 in mass Normandy farms campground is open that time of year at least this year they are next year they are not going to be open all winter. I also think there is a no overnight parking law in the CT rest areas, You may want to look at Walmarts along your way until you get south. The last time I went south that time of year we just took a fast nap in the truck at a truck stop and back on the road to warmer states. Not sure what your route is , not sure how your between Northern NY and CT heading south from maine? have a safe trip.

I do not think there are any campgrounds in that area. There are some rest areas along the way.

Just a thought, you might check out. There is a Cabela's in Hartford. Not sure just where it is located.

When we head south we always shoot for NJ for our first stop, but have gone as far as VA. There is a Truck Stop on the Jersey Pike about every 50 miles or so.

the Cabella's is 2 exits east of Hartford off the Silver lane exit, easy on and off, with dump station and all,the truck stops in Ct on 84 fill-up very quickly with trucks as their are onlt a cpl of them...
If you wish to go farther, about 130 miles on 84 ,right where Pa,NY and NJ meet is a campground called Tri-State that is open year round....a cpl exits before in NY there is a TA and a Pilot truck stops at exits 5 & 6..I think...Chuck

I would pick Cabela's as well. It's in a safe area (in the back next to Pratt and Whitney and the field) then you can pick up either highway depending on where your going.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are basically taking I-84 to Newburgh for a night there with relatives. I hope to park in a church parking lot right beside their house.

As a result of CT Wanderer's earlier suggestion, I researched the Cabelas in E. Hartford and it looks safe and seems to be easy to get to. I also looked it up on Google Earth. I even emailed the Chief of Police there and he said he'd stay there with his family, so.........
