We get more livable room per length in the fifth wheel. The distance from half way back in the truck bed, on, is nearly all livable space. When I see some of the neat little pull trailers it does bring back some good memories for me though.

What I like best about a 5th wheel is the ease of hitching and unhitching since I now travel solo. I also like the massive amount of storage space and the tall ceilings.
Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.

My uncle swears by travel trailers, as he refused to give up the pickup bed space. I noticed however, that many of the fifth wheels have tons of forward basement storage.

Good topic! We are going down the same road right now... I dont want to lose the pickup bed space...

Well with the newer 5ers, and the layout.....you actually get more storage space, and it is protected............plus, you still do have at least some storage space in the bed.
So, that is something to consider also.

I HAAATE WD bars and the hitch. X4! I did more damage to myself with that equipment than I ever did bumping my head on the bedroom slide!
We used to tow a TT with a suburban just because of the size of the family, so I didn't know what it was to lose the space in a pickup by going to a 5er. The only advantage I can see is simplicity in being able to put motorcycles or ATVs in your pickup, but the toy haulers today eliminate any complications with that.

We like the additional storage space, the ability to have a W/D, and the additional amenities. Yes, we did loose bed storage space, but the things we are storing in the 5'er wouldn't have ended up in the bed anyway. We have a fuel/toolbox combo along with a shallow box at the tail gate for additional storage for tools in any case. This has freed up storage space in the basement for other things. All this and still staying within weight limits.
