We just drove through Texas, and were pretty surprised by the open air restrooms at the rest areas. It was cold and windy so not the most pleasant "rest".

Texans must be tough, huh?

About the only indoor restrooms I have observed in Texas are located along Interstate highways.
Most of the two lane US highways I have traveled in Texas have the fence special. You know, little ladder over the fence and out in the brush you go. Watch out for rattlers!

No doors, and there is a fairly big gap between roof and walls. So the weather outside is the weather inside.

It's that way so the critters don't get trapped inside! You don't want to be sitting there with a frightened skunk who can't find a way out!
Both retired. Travel with Nicky the Schnoodle. Son graduated and is teaching high school math. We still love our 2006 34' Allegro Bay XB and have 40,000+ miles on her.

I would think there would be a lot of problems with birds nesting in the rest rooms???

The snakes take care of the birds and the skunks take care of the snakes.
