Being newbies at rving, we (husband, dog and I) are taking our time heading down to Florida February 1st (weather depending ) from Toronto using I75 We have a 34 foot motorhome and plan on staying in motels/hotels until we reach TN and/or Georgia. Just wondered about temps and parks that are open in these 2 states. Our coach is currently winterized and plan on de-winterizing once we know it is safe to do so. Any suggestions about parks from someone who is in that area would be greatly appreciated.

What is the make of your motor home. Does it have heated tanks?
I know the one we use has heated tanks and we fill it with water before we head out and stay in RV parks on the way down.
There are always parks that are open all year that we can stay in.
We lean toward Casinos as they always have parking or parks open that we can plug in. Most of the northern ones do not have water on, but with the full tanks we are good for three- four days before we need to empty or refill and then we are far enough south that it is not an issue.

Not quite sue if your looking at driving a while to get to one or what you are looking for in a park but one of my favorites is Red Top Mountain State Park in Ga.
Take Exit 285 off I75 and it's about 2 miles real nice campground with pull thru RV sites , the Camping part is gated you get a code when you register, electric, water and cable tv and fire ring provided with site, nice showers and bathroom and a dump station when you pull out. Lots of hiking fishing. We always make it a point to go there a couple times a year even though it's only 22mi from us.

We usually stop at Heiskell TN. Escapees Raccoon Valley RV Park. Volunteer Family Campground is at the same exit, but it looks like Raccoon Valley is easier to get into.

In Georgia (north of Atlanta area, a great favorite of hours right off I-75 in Adairsville is Harvest Moon. It is a great park for overnighters for sure-they'll give you a bag of popcorn when you check in and the use of washers and dryers is FREE. Nice gravel pull thru sites as well. Check it out.

Since you going south get of at the exit for Red Top Mountain state park. Go through Red Top Mountain to the 4-way stop and turn right onto King's Camp Road. If you’re going to stay more than over night McKinney Campground is nicer.
As to the weather, right now you would be good to dewinterize. Forecast lows for Chattanooga are just below freezing for tonight and tomorrow then stay above thru Friday. Highs near 60

We live in north Georgia and it's been relatively warm here this week, in the 50s & 60s, lows to the 30s. Pretty typical of our state. Of course, this time last year we had 10 days of below freezing and 8" of snow at my house.
You won't find casinos in Georgia but we have some of the prettiest state parks you'll ever find. Red Top Mountain SP is about 1hr north of Atlanta. There are several COEs in that area too--our favorite is McKinney COE. Most of the COEs are open year round. South of Atlanta there are some good state parks--High Falls SP, Georgia Veterans SP are both good ones. Enjoy your visit. I think Georgia is one of the best states in the U.S.!

We're south of Atlanta about 30 miles. We do drain lines of water but get by with a small space heater inside our travel trailer for winterizing. We camp during the winter anywhere here and south and have never had trouble during the winter. This year has been very mild. You shouldn't have trouble camping here. A nice place and very close to I-75 south of Atlanta is High Falls State Park. We've always camped on the lower side of the falls in the upper level campground. It is very close to the interstate but far enough that you won't have interstate noise. Very south GA on I-75 is Reed Bingham State Park. It is a few miles from the interstate but close enough for just an overnight while traveling. When we travel toward Florida beginning late, we usually stop at the KOA near Valdosta. Call ahead. Last time we stopped there the office closed at 5:00 pm!
