I had the older FJ card which had been upgraded for all of the new features including pump start. Last week at Pilot in Q the pump didn't start so they started it inside. Later I discovered that I did not get the cash price on my AMEX (6 cents less). A week later the old card worked OK at a FJ.
So I went back and they gave me 8 cents/gal (I had just inquired about the 6 cents) cash and recommended that I switch to the new card explaining that the old card was being phased out and that may have been part of the problem.
So based on my experience if you have the older card then switch over to the new card.
Before someone posts what a great deal the Good Sam credit card is let me state: With the loyality card I get 3 cents/gal discount and I get the cash price, charged to AMEX which is due on the next billing. AND I get 4-5% (thats 16-20 cents/gal these days) cash back on AMEX! Why would I want the Good Sam card?

Same here! I'm getting 3ยข off the cash price and using my discover to get another 1% (5% for some part of it this quarter) have no interest in the Good Sam Card at this point in time.

No SS# for the loyalty card because you pay for it with your existing credit card.

Damn! It seems to be that what ever Pilot/FJ a person goes into they are going to be treated differently. When I went into the P/FJ at Wells, Nevada They required my SS# and my date of birth for the loyalty card/ Frequent Fueler Card. And the people at GS backed that up. I quit Good Sam because of it. Now people are saying that is not a requirement at the stations they go to so I tried again at a station north of Sacramento and was asked for my SS# and date of birth again. I told the clerk I only wanted the F/F card not the credit card and was told they still needed my SS# and date of birth.
I asked what the discount was with the F/F card and was told it was $.02 per gallon. I decided it was not worth the bother.
It seems to me that Pilot/Flying J and Good Sam need to better train there people. Or get rid of the people who are out to steal their customers personal info. Until thy do they will not get my business.
Neither one of them.

Any S/S # and birthdate will work. They could care less. Just make up whatever numbers you want.

The problem is you're getting the Good Sam Card. What we have is a Frequent Fueler Advantage RV card. No Good Sam involved. Mine doesn't turn on the pump except in the truck lanes. I insert my credit card, then it asks for a loyalty card and I swipe it then and then the pump gives me the discounted price.

It starts the truck pump and I pay inside with my AMEX card.
For the gas pump AMEX starts the process, then you are prompted for the loyality card. No need to go inside.
