Can't speak to the towablity of the Jeep, or what your MH is rated to tow. However, the V10 has the power. See my signature.

I tow a 2001 GC behind our 33 foot Hurricane with a v-10. We live in Colorado and it is no problem. Plenty of power and handles well

What tow rating has your Hurricane? The sticker inside the closet of mine says mine has 3500 lbs! Is your allowed to tow more?

I suspect we should also mention that the Jeep has different models. Quadra-dra trac 1 and 2 and select trac. I believe quadra 1 is only four wheel and has no neutral on the drive train so can't be towed. In any Jeep make sure you can shift the drive into N. not the auto tran but the lever next to it. That is your key to towing 4 down. That said if you haven't purchased yet you might want to look at older used. I picked up a nice 2004 for good price when I decided I wanted to tow a Grand Cherokee from time to time. I do notice the weight compared to my Smart car but it tows well. The Smart goes on longer trips but depending on need the Grand is a great tow. I use an even brake.

Interesting, the 29D (which is actuality 31 feet long) has a typical class III hitch, but the sticker in the closet says the tow rating is 3500 lb. I wonder if it would be possible to weld some extra steel to the frame to make it into 5000 lb. I bet that I have the same transmission in my 29D as you have in your 31K.

Again, the WEAKEST LINK dictates towing and tongue weight ratings. The weakest link may NOT be the hitch itself. Check with your coach maker before assuming beefing up one component would give you a higher rating.

With a vehicle in tow, tongue weight is just the weight of the tow bar. My sticker says I have 500lb tongue weight rating. hence, that should not be a problem. I doubt very much that the manufacturer 9for legal reasons) would give me any information on what to do to beef up the hitch rating. Long ago when a college tried to educate me to become an engineer, I learned (in material sciences) that tensile strain would be the thing to look after, if I want to pull something. If I would increase the strain rating, I should be able to pull more. I am not talking about a lot more weight, because my Jeep weights only about 4000 lb, which means, I would need to beef up the tow rating by about 500 lb. Any thoughts about this?

Does your Grand Cherokee have Quadra-drive in it? That is so your transfercase can be neutralized so your trans doesn't turn. If not then DO NOT TOW!!!
