Dick A- I don't know what caused you to become disabled or how this is affecting your life but you seem bitter about it - to the extent that you are not looking at this situation with a unbiased eye and certainly not the way a moderator should be looking at it.

Being a new member of Dick A's little club myself, I disagree wholeheartedly!
I agree totally with Dick A!
Especially when I enter a handicapped rest room stall and can't get at the paper because some damfool government bureaucratic idiot determined that the holder must be mounted low on the wall instead of up where it can be comfortably accessed!
No, sorry, the ADA is another good idea that has been beat into the ground by stupidity.

it seems to me Dick is just expressing that he'd rather do as much as possible on his own vs becoming dependent on the government. I can't see anything 'bad' about that. I know many disabled people who feel the same way.
I also know some disabled people who want everything handed to them. There are basically two categories of people who are disabled. Those who want it all handed to them from the government, and those who take "just enough" that they really need. If I become disabled I hope to be in the latter category.

As moderators and rvers we are certainly entitled to voice our opinions with whatever bias we deem relevant as long as we play by the forum rules like everyone else on boards.

There are plenty of able bodied people looking for and receiving handouts. The ADA has been around quite a while now and somehow cities continue to grow.
This not about government dependency. Western Park RV owner just stated he had to come out of his pocket $9K with no government assistance. Not all ADA compliant issues receive government funding.
This is about just what it says providing ADA access for those who need it. If your business serves the public you must provide success for all.
We are talking about removing physical barriers: steps, curbs, steep inclines, narrow doorways, faucet handles, lowering sinks and urinals.
I agree these improvements can add to the cost, however they don't always have to. In many cases compliance is a matter of design choice.
Nevertheless being ADA compliant is not the root of all evil or the source of our government debt.
But than again maybe it would just be cheaper to warehouse all the disabled people in one place. Put them out of sight where they won't be a nuisance wanting to rent a cabin, or get over a curb.
Think of how much we could save if we kept the doorways narrow and left all the urinals at one level. After all I'm healthy and able bodied. Let those good for nothings stay home, America is for healthy people anyway................
We can afford space exploration, foreign aid, bank bailouts and everything else but we sure can't afford to make a buildings ADA compliant!
This is not a welfare debate and really has nothing to do with how healthy you or I may currently be! This is about ensuring access for the disabled.
Shame on those who think this is about the deficit. There were disabled people. (Remember they are people!) Before the deficit, There will be disabled people after the deficit.(Assuming we ever right the ship.) But the disabled do not need to be sitting at the bottom of a stairway. Or stuck at a curb. Or unable to find a public bathroom. Not too long ago before the ADA was enacted that's how the disabled lived. Without ADA mandates that's how they would continue to live. Instead of crying broke thank God that you are able bodied and not one in need of ADA assistance.

Yea I did. I've read all of his posts. I'm just wondering why he deleted some of the posts from other people who had valid points and as far as I could tell were not breaking forum rules.

I have not heard from so many Dis-Informed, or Un-informed people in a long time.
This is the way it is .RIGHT NOW.with this Federal law.
ALL places of accomadation , (Public or Private) With pools, or hot tubs MUST provide lifts ...Movable or fixed .... .which a Handicaped person must be able to opperate ....BY THEMSELFS while in the water, or out of the water.
I know this Because.....................the Hotel where I work at JUST installed a lift, which is movable, Battery powered, and can be opperated by a handicaped person, in or out of the water.( Believe me, we would not have done this , if not mandated.) We are sure it will just sit, covered for a long time. Not one of the people there, can remember anyone needing this coming in Alone . All have Helpers, spouses, etc...
This is a Federal mandate, and fines are steep.....I believe $1,000.00, or $10,000.00 PER DAY (don't remember which it is ) for non-compliance.
This IS FOR REAL !!!! When the Feds start passing out the fines ..They are going to put a big dent in the debt.(and a large dent in places of busines who feel this does not apply to them )
