I did some looking around at this camera (Foscam FI8910W). Many people have problems with the wireless connection dropping unless they assign a static IP on their home network. The camera requires Active-X controls, unlike my Trendnet that will work on Java. The manual for the Foscam FI8918W also states that you need IE browser and need to change security to allow unsigned Active-X controls to be dowloaded which is a real security problem.
Loftek makes one that seems identical and in one review on Amazon ( Amazon link) it mentions a real security problem:
Quote: Overall this is a good camera for the price point with one glaring flaw:
The camera ALWAYS attempts to make an outbound connection to a server in China (IP: x.x.x.x). There is no way to disable this "feature". (I deleted the actual IP address given)
Kind of makes me wonder about it.

Just be careful if you use Verizon 4g LTE on your home network, NO streaming device like cameras and Slingbox's will work.
They do not allow you to have a dedicated IP address which is needed for cameras to work.

Where is the above quote from. I would like to read up on it.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem.

Thank you for the link. I have read the complete exchange and it is something to consider. I realize the reviews are for the fostek camera which may or may not be the same as the foscam f18910w so I will do more checking before I buy any ip camera. I wonder if they all have a similar problem. Thanks again for your input.

I have the older Foscam FI8918W model and the outdoor FI8904W model, and they work great with any PC, or my Verizon android smartphones (3g model and new 4g LTE Samsung Stratosphere model using the app IP Cam Viewer). I set them up with fixed I.P. like the directions say to, leaving all the other PCs with the standard DHCP IP default. I use one of the free ddns services for the external IP access, because I don't want to pay my internet provider for a fixed IP address. The security seems reasonably strong, and the cameras are very reliable. I like the fact the PC doesn't have to be on to allow camera access. If you want to record the data stream continously, you need a spare PC with Blue Iris software ($50). Otherwise, motion can be set to trigger a series of pictures of the event.
