My TKR scheduled for 01-31-12 has been cancelled. Seems there will be a work stoppage by the nurses that day. Had hoped to be able to drive back to Branson for my Submarine Assoc. Reunion May first and be through with PT and hiking again by the time the DGKs school was out for the summer. Now it looks like i'll have to put it off till October if I want to take any summer trips.

The surgery to remove the scar tissue from the left knee went well and even the right knee feels better. Sure seems funny to be able to get up from a chair or sofe and not hear that crinkling of a plastic water bottle.

sbishop, glad your knees are feeling better. Enjoy your trips and just plan for next year if they're feeling good.

sbishop,

Sorry about the delay. Some advice here from someone who had TKR on November 2. I was driving a stick shift using the left knee for the clutch at 3 1/2 weeks. Discharged from rehab at 7 weeks. At 12 weeks, I'm hiking 5 to 6 miles every other day on rocky trails in Arizona.

Other than the bum knee I was healthy and on no medications. If you are in good health, you should be able to have TKR in February and drive to your reunion in May. Just use the same discipline that you learned in the Navy and apply it to your rehab. I worked at my rehab almost 3 hour per day. Do the same and you'll do well. The healing process is different for different people. From what I read, my results were not unusual.

Good luck and keep us posted.

i think your results were wonderful thunder but we aren't all the same. I did pretty good, my PT was 3 hours 3x's a week. i did the progression from walker to cane to nothing but it was hard, didn't use the pain pills much though. I need to get my other knee done sometime in the future. While it's great to hear good stories it can be depressing for you if you aren't on par with them, don't be, as long as you move forward you're doing good.

Thanks for all the sympathy, I am not worried about the recovery time and driving, I'm worried about the surgery being rescheduled for mid April. After the first TKR I was ready to drive within a few days of being discharged from the hospital, got rid of the walker in one day but the DW didn't want me driving for several weeks. I followed the Home PT's instructions and the only thing I really got from the PT at the clinic was in doing the balancing exercises. Right now I'm using two or three pills a day for the pain but then again I'm pruning trees, climbing ladders and changing out our old accent lighting under the eaves of the roof and hiking with the DGKs when we travel. The only thing that really put me down for a day was putting a couple of storage units with the DGS last week end. Boy oh boy, kneeling for 1/2 hour at a time didn't when I did it but it did at bedtime.
