Serious question here As we all know, We can no longer buy the old style light bulbs. I am past 70 years old and lately I have noticed the bright Idea bulb over my head is slowley growing dimmer and dimmer, I am afraid it will have to be replaced soon. SO, My question is, Will the new bulbs which resemble a dollop of whipped cream, work as well as the old type when one has a Bright IDEA? I was undecided whether to post this in, "Tech Issues," or here, "Around the Campfire." I decided to post it here because this is the best answer department.

I think they will work better:
They take longer (thinking time) to get up to speed.
They are brighter when they get up to speed.
And
At my age getting up to speed is a daily challenge.
but at least I am still getting up.
As for the future, more duller & darker minutes ahead.

One of the primary differences between the "old" bright ideas and the "new" bright ideas is that you must retain your "new" bright idea in place for a minimum of 5 minutes above your head. Otherwise, your "new" bright idea will not be as bright.
The "old" bright ideas did not have this issue. They were bright the moment you thought of them.
I hope this has helped.

I think we should replace it with LEDs. They use less energy and I know I have less as I age.

I was in Lowes the other day and notice they do have regular bulbs that are LED's now. I never really paid much attention before so I don't know how long these have been around. They weren't cheap, about $30 a piece. But they say they burn for 25,000 hours or more. So you may never have to change a bulb again if you put them in all of your lamps.
As for using them for bright ideas, the one plugged at Lowes seemed to be very bright. So it would be good for a bright idea.
