Im waiting for some answers to your question.....I have read plenty on other Forum's concerning Millenicom but Im still looking for the best/easiest/least expensive option for Internet on the road. Since we dont full time, I want something that can be stopped and started without too much trouble.

I've had it since October 1st. I'm happy with it. Drove from WA to ID into Montana from Glacier Park to Custer Battlefield (Far NW corner to the far SE corner of Montana). Didn't stay on interstates... took main paved two lane highways mostly. Everywhere that I had a cell phone signal (Sprint) I had a 3G connection with the hotspot. Stayed connected while driving just fine. Could power it from the USB port on the laptop...or plug it into the small converter I have connected to the cigarette lighter.

It does connect and re-connect quite often but this is a major problem with the Verizon one's too. Does not matter which one you use... they all have issues. It's not a big deal to shut it off and turn it back on to get reconnected. I just keep mine on all day long.

Millenicom's customer service is really good. Don't be leery of them.

If you are thinking of turning the service off and on... just read their "fine print".
Fine Print: "In the event a customer signed up for our Early Bird Special later decides to close this account they will need to adopt the usage and pricing for what is available at the time they choose to return to our service."

I agree with louiskathy. I have had the service also since Oct with the 4G/3G. That uses the Verizon network. They have 2 3G options, one uses the Verizon and the other uses the Sprint. I also agree the the problems with losing the network is the 4G system, not the wifi router either Samsung or LG. I voiced my complaints with Millenicom and also on forums prior to now.
3 of my issues were clearly with the 4g or towers where I couldn't get any signal while in a 3g area in MS. I still loose the signal now in a 4g area near Mobile Al but it now reconnects quickly without having to turn the router off or taking the battery out for 30 seconds or so. By the way those two functions are different solutions to the same problem.
The reason I have Millenicom is that I am up to 13Gb this month so far and they are much cheaper than the Verizon option of 5G for $50 and $10 a Gb after that.
Go for it.

The 4G problem is one with the modems which try to connect to a 4G tower even when connected successfully to a 3G transmitter. The modems do not allow for a 3G only setting. I went back to a older 3G only modem which is not a problem as there is no 4G service in my area or around 99% of the places we travel around the country.

You can go into the diagnostics mode with the 3G modems to set them to CDMA only so they do not connect to the 1xRTT transmitter. If the default or Auto mode is used then the modem will connect to the 1xRTT transmitter from the tower if that transmitter is providing a stronger signal than the 3G transmitter, which is the case at my house.

We use the USB modem in a Cradlepoint Router at the house and at destinations. While driving the modem is inserted in one of our netbooks to download and upload email and to retrieve voice mail from our business lines.

Modem also makes it easy to use Google Maps and Yelp.com to find the best restaurants and businesses in an area and Gasbuddy.com to find the best places to buy diesel (and that sell diesel for that matter).

We have used Millenicom for the past 3 years and been very happy with their rates, their higher cap than Verizon, their service, and the fact that there is no contract. They also provide the USB modem for no charge or you can buy your own if you prefer.

Although I got my modem free back in February, 2011, I believe Millenicom has dropped their "free modem" deal with the Advanced Plan - their web site is listing it at $99.99 + a $49.99 set up fee & $15.00 shipping, all required to start the account. That said, for heavy users or those that don't want a contract, it is still a good deal. I have been pleased with the service.
