Motorcraft is the only way to go,i bought mine at rockauto.com for a lot less than local Ford wanted. You will probably also need the upgrade wire harness pigtail as mine did, mine is also 1996 Ford 460,was not that hard to replace, let me know if you need more help, Tim

Does your Motorhome have basement storage?.........are your tanks between the floors?
In my case.......I would have had to go through the black tank to do what you are proposing.......

Dropping the tank is really not as bad as you might think, siphon as much gas out as you can, remove 2 tank straps, put a floor jack near the rear of the tank, there is a big bolt at the front that you loosen only, and then remove rear bolt, unhook the filler tube and vent hose from the side of the tank and then lower back half to the ground and crawl up on the tank to remove pump which is in the center, and yes there is plenty of room to work, just remember to get all the cruud off the tank before removing pump. The new motorcraft pump is a new design and will last much longer than the original. This job is much easier than going through the floor, from Tim your self appointed master Ford pump replacer.

I cut a removable hatch under the rear bed in my MH, in order to make fuel pump access easier. It was really quite easy to do, and now I have the satisfaction of knowing that I can change that pump, at the campsite if necessary, in about 30 minutes. No need to find someplace to store 50 gallons of gas, and no crawling on the ground.
