We are planning our summer travel. After stops in SD, we will continue to WY. We want to spend time in Cody. Is there enough to do/see to warrant a week stay? We will have a toad, for day trips, along with any sights in Cody.

Appreciate any campground suggestions - 40' class a, prefer fhups. I know there is the Buffalo Bill museum, the rodeo - what else is a "do not miss"? day trips - where and what??? We will be there in late July.

thanks for your help
Kathy

OP here. I should have mentioned that my sister/bil will be joining us - fly in from east - for their 1 week vacation. Some down time ok, but we will want to take in as much of the area as possible -

We've been to Cody for restocking trips to the stores there when staying at Yellowstone. Other than what you mentioned I did not see much there. Do they have a website? There is a Dam to the west with a museum but it's only worth a rest stop. Of course Yellowstone isn't that far away, the east side anyway.

You can check out the blog entry for our stay there this last summer here. There is a short review of the campground as well as what we did for the five days we were there. One of our favorite stops of the summer.

Since Cody is only 52 miles from the east entrance to Yellowstone - I would hit it for lots of days. The museum is nice in Cody but two days tops in my opinion.

I would recommend the Ponderosa Campground in Cody we enjoyed it

Ponderosa RV Park was nice and within walking distance to the museum. It would be easy to spend a week there depending on what activities you are into. Rodeo, nightly shoot out, golf, river rafting, horseback riding, museums, the dam, fishing, shopping, laundry, kicking back, etc. For me, 3 to 4 nights would be enough.

I could because I would do day trips into Yellowstone from there. You can also drive up Chief Joseph Hwy to Red Lodge MT, drive the Bear Tooth Hwy, etc. I would eat breakfast at Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel. Every morning. Love that place.

We spent 3 days/4 nights in Cody back in May 2010. Stayed at the Ponderosa RV Park, which is only a few blocks from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This is the best western museum anywhere. If you want to see everything, plan on 1-2 days just there.

The Buffalo Bill Dam is a few miles west of town on the road that leads to the east entrance of Yellowstone.

I believe that Cody has a nightly rodeo in the Summer.

When we left Cody to head for Yellowstone, we drove the Chief Joseph Highway to the northeast entrance. An absolutely beautiful drive that can be done with a day trip if you desire.

Spending time in Yellowstone is an obvious suggestion, but IMO Cody is too far away to use as a base camp.

No there isn't. JMHO. Take a run down to Thermopolis for a couple of days to relax in their hot springs.
