If you REALLY mean campgrounds might take a look at "horse Tooth Reservoir" in the Loveland area.

Check out the web site for Colorado State Parks. It is an excellent site that provides detailed information about all 42 state parks. You might also think about visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. Have a great trip.

What kind of place are you looking for? Both of these parks are in cities, both cities with good qualities. You can easily drive up into the mountains from there, but you won't be camping IN the mountains.

In particular, Boyd Lake State Park is right in Loveland, and has electric hookups, a dump station, hiking trails and a very nice swim beach.

Yep. Stayed at both. Both are nice. Ft Collins KOA was a little pricy I thought. Was $49.00 per night back in Sept. Very easy access to Poudre Canyon on up to Cameron Pass if you want to see some moose. Riverside in Loveland is nice with easy access to Big Thompson Canyon and Estes Park or Rocky Mtn National Park. Boyd Lake State Park is nice but is on the east side of Loveland and will be further away from the sight seeing. Enjoy your trip.

Horsetooth Reservoir is located west of Ft. Collins. Unless you consider Loveland as a part of the Ft. Collins area.

Carter Lake is closer to Loveland. Horsetooth is closer to Fort Collins.

Both are part of the Laramie county park system. Last fall it was $25 a night for electric and $30 an night for full hook ups. You also have to get a window sticker either by the day or year.

They are pretty basic but clean. Packed on the weekend but dead during the week. There are a couple of other CGs in that system.

Go farther north and you can go to Red Feather Lakes. There are some beautiful NFS CG's up there. We had electric for $23 a night there.

I don;t know of any private CGs personally but there are lots of NSF and state CGs everywhere here. Lots of places to boondock too.
