Since this seems to almost be an off the wall answer, I'll give an off the wall response.
Oil level was low.

Either that, or that thang ain't got not fire going into the hole (because it didn't lite with the WD40).

Loose connection somewhere, allowing air into the fuel system.
Example...loose injector assembly.
Many vocational experiences with 'breakdowns.'
