I've found it never hurts to call and ask: I JUST made a reservation at a place that listed on their website that the price was based on "2 people and 2 pets per site". But upon speaking to the owner and explaining that I had 3 dogs - she said, "Oh - no problem"!
I've also had the "weight restriction" waived - it seems a #70 Aussie weighs less than a #50 pitbull ;-)

When in doubt call ahead. We travel with four dogs and have never had a problem. Sometimes I wish we had less dogs but we came by them as rescues running a shelter and ended up with four that no one else wanted. Mama is a thirteen year old 90 pound Shepherd mix, Hobo is a six year old 80 pound something or other. Peaches is an eleven year old 35 pound Jack Russell mix and Suzie is a six year old 48 pound Rhodesianridge back mix. Suzie is a handful. I have never seen a dog enjoy life as much as she does, such a joy to have her.
It is hard to keep them all in tow, but we manage. This weekend we are going to Destin, Florida where dogs are not allowed on the beach. When you have as many as we do you are always suspect so it pays to keep things in order.

We have 3 chihuahuas and when I see the 2 dog limit and really need to stay at a certain campground, I call them first. Once I tell them that they are chuhuahuas, I am told no problem. Many have asked me to bring the dogs by the office so they can see them.... not to inspect but to cuddle. Life is good and people are usually understanding.
I have seen a 22 ft class C drive up to a campground and 5 greyhounds step out with their owners. My only thought was ... where do they sit?

Hi
When I read your question. I had to respond. I have 6 teacup shih tzu all 4-6 lbs. We have never been turned away. We like Koa because they are very tolerant. and never a problem. The other private parks, like my human kids are never let out of my site. I cant leave these dogs outside unattended because of many reasons.
First, they are fragile dogs they cold or hot easily and because of their small size and smooshy face have trouble breathing.
Second they are prey for other animals both wild and domestice. My third reason is theft. People just love em and come up to see them and will pick them up without asking. we get followed down the street for people to see them and have a picture taken with them. I have had women come up to me and just take the dog out of my carrier or arms. Its scary, they are like my children.
Also with so much commotion people wanting to pet the " puppies" they get over whelmed and I would not want one to bite anyone. So we keep them in the coach if we are in and out when we are out. We pick up after them the momment they do business do the fact they have the yukkie habit and I dont want them doing that.
I have never been turned a way. By the way I have 4 young adults two come RVing with us. They never go anywhere unattended for their safety, that goes for both boys and girls. We were in a town were there a high number of sex offenders and my husband and I accompanied them every where. We made it clear this was the rule.
The only time we are not taking the dog babies with us is this summer to yellowstone due to the high number of preditors at the park.

I travel with 4-8 medium size dogs and use pet friendly.com for campground rules. In addition my friend travels with 8/9 dogs in her rv. We can usually stay at KOAs and of course call ahead and discuss our situation. Many parks have areas where you can park away from others. In approx 7 years of travel we have only had an issue with 2 parks.
We show our dogs and keep them in a fenced area in our setup.
Our biggest issue is people coming over to our area with their dogs and that causes our dogs to bark. If you talk with them they understand and then all is ok.
The bigger issue is the arbitrary breed restrictions.
There are many people who travel with more than 2 dogs, all sizes.
I wouldn't even think of traveling without my dogs - makes life worthwhile!

rockhillmanor- I think it insurance companies who are responsible for the breed restrictions, not peta.

We have three dogs (63 lb golden, 2 12 lb dachshunds)....have never had a problem with any parks....and have never called ahead. Our dogs are more behaved than some of the campers with kids.....why not limit that number. When we check in the campground never knows how many we have til they see us walking around the park with them. We are responsible owners...pick up after them, do not leave them unattended in the 5th wheel and when outside control the barking. They don't even know they are dogs. We are always disappointed when our and about sightseeing and the number of places our dogs are not allowed or the beaches. Yet there have been numerous times having encounters with children unsupervised and getting into trouble.

Let's not forget irresponsible dog owners as well. Inconsiderate people with poorly trained and misbehaving dogs ruin it for those of us that realize the world does not revolve around us.

I can see the number of dogs being a restriction but a limit of 30 lbs is the one that gets me. It does'nt take much of a dog to get to 30 lbs!
