I've seen some campgrounds state in their literature that dogs are allowed but are limited to two dogs. Anyone with personal experience that have more than two dogs that have been turned away by a campground? We stay at private campgrounds because we would rather have full hookups and other amenities, I'm sure state and federal parks wouldn't be as picky.
We travel with two small dogs, a shih tzu and a pomeranian, we've been wanting to get back to a larger dog, this time a Cane Corso, which is an Italian Mastiff (magnificent animal) but concerned we may be turned away. Your thoughts...........

We decide on campgrounds with the Trailer Life directory or online sources that give info about pets. I think you will get more breed restriction than number restrictions, but they are out there. We travelled with three large dogs for years with no problems following this method.

We have three Shi-Tzu dogs all less than 20 lbs. We bought our motorhome largely because we wanted to travel with them. We have been very surprised at the number of parks (private and otherwise) that set an arbitrary limit on the number of pets. I'm yet to hear a single campground representative make a cogent argument for why they set such a limit. I completely understand (and agree) with breed restrictions and to a lesser extent size restrictions but an arbitrary numerical limit is ridiculous.
Our practical experience has been that most campgrounds will allow our three small dogs if we contact them first. I often email them a photo if they balk. Only the ones that have some sort of deed restricted community have given me a flat no. Size does seem to make a big difference and showing them a photo of our three little ones usually cinches the deal.
I've also had to fight this issue with several military campgrounds. Again, a calm discussion with the person that has the authority to make an exception is usually successful. Note that is usually not the campground manager at a military base.
I think having more than two pets unnecessarily complicates the RV experience. We won't have more than two again.

Limits are set to try and create/control an environment of enjoyment for ALL
One RV per site
One vehicle per site
2 adults/2 kids per site
2 pets per site
ETC.
So yes there are limitations/restrictions.
We FT with one dog. We have NOT be able to stay at some CG's due to weight limits (No dogs over 40# etc.) ours weighs 70#.
OK.....no biggie because we ALWAYS check ahead of time and it's their rules.
Not only due limits exist (number/weight) but restrictions on breeds......set by Insurance/underwriters policy......and Mastiff has appeared on that list.
Personally I have more problems with 'ankle biters' than large dogs.

Up until recently we traveled with three dogs (one passed on)but mostly stay in COE or NF campgrounds. Pa (I think) has a limit of two dogs but we normaly stay at Gifford Pinchot state park when we visit our son near harrisburg but that may be just that park. We have not had any problems. Haven't stayed in a private CG in years.

We have four "kids" and have never run into an issue. Many CG's will say the limit is two dogs but with prior approval you are generally Good to GO! I have seen other CG's where they will charge you a couple of dollars per dog for anything over two.

We have three, small to medium sized dogs. Total weight would be a little under 60 pounds for all three... just to give you an idea of their size. So far only one RV Park, that we wanted to stay in, had a "two pet rule". I called to ask about it and assured the manager our dogs would not be problematic and that we always cleaned up after them. She agreed to let us stay. On the day we were leaving she told us "If everyone with more than two pets took care of them the way you do we would increase our limit." I think that would be considered a success.
I think she stretched the rules from time to time and doubt we were the only ones with more than two that she allowed to stay, but I still consider it a success. If they had not been open to allowing us to stay with our three we would have simply looked elsewhere. No big deal really, there are a LOT of great places to park a RV in this country and the rules vary.

We no longer have dogs since the old ones passed away. But yes, most places we camp only allow 2 dogs. It's probably to keep noise and odors down but I'm just guessing. I never asked. And the size of the dog and breed also matters. No bully breeds or dogs over something like 35 lbs. Call and ask to make sure before you make reservations or buy a large breed of dog. Private CGs are all different.
More and more CGs, in our experience, will not allow the larger breeds of dog in.

Most of the CG's I've been at thru my travels have a 2 dog limit and many a 30 lb rule.
Sadly your dynamics will drastically change if you get a mastiff. He will be over the weight limit at many CG's and not allowed at many others because of his breed.
Please pause and give a word of thanks to peta for all these new CG restricting rules.
