We want to go to Baniff and maybe take in the Stampede in Calgary this summer. Any thoughts about a full service camp ground in the area. Plus What is a must to see at the stampede in Calgary.

Hi,
I imagine that if you don't have a reservation already for an RV park that is near Calgary for stampede week that you may not find one.
Banff has some really beautiful campsites. None of them will "disappoint".

X2 on the reservations. Would sooner go to the mountains. If you look on kijiji you can sometimes find good deals on parks canada passes which you will need to get in order to visit Banff and the rest of the park.

Make sure you book early. This is the 100th aniversary for the Stampede and extra advertising is going on and the normally booked up places are expected to be more booked than normal. Hang around town for a few days for Stampede to get the feel. Most of the action is on one grounds so you can pretty much stay there start to finish if you can handle it. Pancake breakfasts every day and lots of other things going on. This town goes crazy for 10 days of fun and party. Banff is nice and there are full hookups there if you need. and is about 1 1/2 hours away by rv. There is also a place called Mount Kidd RV park which is a bit closer and in a little more remote area just of the main hiway. There is also a KOA on the west edge of town as well. If you can go with partial hookups like just power there is a nice area about half hour from town called Bragg Creek that has power only but you do have access to water and dumpsite there that is only 30-40 minutes outside of town as well. Hopefully that helps a bit but if you have any specifics feel free to send a pm and I would be glad to help as there are way to many options to list on a general post.

Tunnel mountain trailer park in Banff National Park has full hook ups. 2012 reservations open on the national park web site on April 3 at 7 am mountain time- in 2010 I got a reservation on line with ease that morning for June/July
We stayed at Mountain View campground is Calgary, OK place and they ran bus to the venue for just a few dollars.

July 6-15th. As others have said its the Stampedes Centennial this Year and expected to be very busy. I live not far from the Okotoks Lions Campground that someone else posted a link and it's alright. If it were me....coming from down South and looking for a nice place, I'd be headed to Mt Kidd RV Park. Beautiful campground about 45 mins from Calgary and maybe 30 mins to Banff. Tough one to get into though.

We stayed at the KOA on the west side of Calgary, near the olympic area. There was a shuttle to the Stampede grounds. Water and Electric, no sewer, but plenty of prarie dog holes to pour dishwater down . The Stampede is definately worth the trip. They don't call it "the greatest outdoor show on earth " for nothing. The Rodeo was great, the chuck-wagon races are a hoot, and the stage show was mind-boggling.
