We are planning a trip to Washington DC. Were wondering if anyone knows of any good campgrounds we could stay at. We would prefer the Maryland side but open to all suggestions.

Cherry Hill, they have a shuttle downtown.

X2 take the shuttle and get on the metro for the ride to DC. Very nice park too.

Thank you very much. Any idea if a tourist pass (Washington DC City Pass) is worth the money or is just walking around going to make for a good visit.

Skip the pass. Most of the stuff that you'll want to see is free and you probably won't even get to see all of it. Have fun!

Yeah we were there for 5 days this summer and didn't even see all the free stuff. If you want to go on the Whitehouse or Congress tours you probably should leave packs and such behind for that day since security is tight. And the line is long too.

We've stayed at Cherry Hill twice and it's great. You can leave the rv and take the train into DC. Everything you want to see is right on the Mall. Just go and do it. We've been 3 times and we're going back because we still haven't seen everything.

Cherry Hill no doubt. We spent a month there in 2006. Grab the bus in the park 20 min. later on the Metro 20 min. later at the Mall. Walk as much as possible so bring a comfortable pair of shoes. I won't even begin to advise what you should see, you have to do that based on what you are interested in. I would advise that you take a night Grey Lines bus tour of DC. You will be picked up and brought back to the park after your tour. A totally different perspective on the city and the memorials around the Mall.

As an alternative to Cherry Hill, take a look at Capitol KOA in Millersville MD. It also has a shuttle service to DC each day. I have used this CG several times while visiting our son just three miles away. It is located on I-97 between Baltimore and DC.
I have not stayed at the new Cherry Hill but have stayed at the old location and at that time it was very easy to take the bus to the train and then travel right to the mall in DC.
