Oh, yes, The Tooth of Time is a good one! Speaking of Sue Henry, I just read The Serpents Trail, which takes place in Grand Junction, CO, just before her trip to Taos.

WOW, you folks have blown my little mind! We could probably spend all of our trip time in NM! I'll wait a day or so before asking you for info on the next state, just in case there's someone with that very special place that others have missed! Thanks a million!

Yep, Tony Hillerman is a good read for sure. I've also found Michael McGarrity to be one as well. I especially like Aimée & David Thurlo's Ella Clah novels.

For a good read with a Cochise County setting in Southeastern Arizona, the Joanna Brady mysteries by J.A. Jance are very good.

Cumbres & Toltec RR, Aztec Ruins National Monument, Chaco Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns.

If you get to eastern AZ Painted Desert and Petrified Forest are very cool.

I agree with Drbolasky with one additional note.

Do NOT (repeat NOT) try to take the trailer to Chaco Canyon. The site is absolutely wonderful and worth the long drive in and back.

The access road, however, across the reservation is terrible. The people who "maintain" it learned their trade in Afghanistan (or maybe Mississippi). Leave the trailer in Farmington or Bloomfield and make Chaco a long day trip with just the truck.

By the way, Salmon Ruins in Bloomfield is also neat.

What! All this discussion and no one has mentioned the NM buffet in the Fiesta lounge at the La Fonda in Santa Fe???!!! That's a winner in our book for dining! Not to mention the mysterious stairway in the little Chapel there. Yes, there is a LOT to see in NM! ST
