Would like advise on a future trip. Hopefully this year or next.
Oregon to Florida keys. Florida to South Dakota and then back to Oregon.
Can drive 700 miles a day to Louisiana. And can drive that far through the mid west if needed. Must stop to visit a few days in Louisiana. I have seen much of the states to get there and do not need to sight see in those states. In Florida must see mom for a few days and would like to spend 5 days in the Keys. Then up through the mid west to South Dakota to see Crazy horse And Rushmore. We have been to Idaho and Yellowstone. Then back to Oregon.
Is this a long trip for about 32 days? What else should we see?
Sights between Florida and South Dakota through the mid west?
About 7600 miles in 32 days.
Sights in Florida?
We can lengthen the trip if needed but not much.
Our longest trip has been about 4000 miles to date.
Thanks in advance for any input.

That's an AVERAGE of ~~5 hours per day of driving, if you drive EVERY DAY. So, based on your stopping requirements, you're probably looking at more like 7-8 hours per day on average, for those days you are traveling. About 1/2 of your 32 days will consist of 7-8 hours traveling. I'm not sure that would qualify as a vacation for me, but if it suits you, then go for it!!!!!!

I was also thinking it was more like a job than a vacation. I may have to figure out a way to lengthen the trip.

Lets see, we did 8000 plus miles in just about 43 days this past summer from Calif to Vermont and back, we spent time in the following area's:
3 nights Las Vegas (CG)
4 nights in Yellowstone/Grand Teton's (CG)
3 nights in Mount Rushmore area (CG)
1 night in Chicago (Family)
2 nights in St Paul (Family)
2 nights in New York (Family)
4 nights in Conn(Casino lot)
7 nights in Vermont (Family)
4 nights in Branson (CG)
3 nights in Pahrump (CG)
The remainder of the nights were spent in Roadside Rest area's, E/R campgrounds or Parking Lots. I guess that means the vast majority of the driving was done in 10-12 days.....I never once felt rushed and we all Loved the trip. The days I drove were long but Id do it all again! I say Go for it and have Fun.....

I think it's do able. Push hard for a few days then sit back for a few. Very workable if you have a second driver.
You can always stop in Red Bay AL and tour the Tiffin facility and isn't the world's largest ball of string in Kansas somewhere? St Louis and the Gateway Arch, Branson Mo, Memphis Bar-Be-Que Fest if your head thru in mid May or maybe Grace Land if not. Dolly World is around there I think also. Could be some Civil War 150 year reenactments also scheduled. The Baseball All Start game is in KC this year if you in the area at that time. Game tickets maybe beyond your budget but there is always the Home Run Derby and other events related to the game.
Don't forget to schedule a coach maintenance day somewhere in there also.
Part of the fun is planning out the events.

We've done the NW to Keys trip and did it in about 3+ weeks one way. Going back we took longer so I guess my answer would be---take your time, see more, keep your travel days shorter, stop oftener, etc. Unless you are on a limited time frame...enjoy the trip, don't wear yourself out! We seldom travel more than 300 miles per day even in the summer. If you shoot for 700 miles per day you will miss a lot!
For either the trip north or south don't just hit South Dakota and figure you have really enjoyed that region. Explore eastern Wyoming some (tour the coal mines, see Devil's tower) and especially the panhandle of Nebraska (Fort Robinson, Scottsbluff).
When we did our trip we went south from Seattle in January and didn't get to Florida for almost a month going through Texas; spent a few days in San Antonio; stopped in Mobile, AL to see the USS Alabama (will take all day to tour); spent 2 days in Layfayette, LA to see the historcal places and the Tabasco factory; another 3 days were spent in New Orleans; then we spent a few more days in Pensacola before we even really getting into Florida! We traveled southward in FL down the center of the state not the coast to visit Orlando a few days, then finally headed to the Keys where we spent 2 weeks.
If I was doing your trip...I'd allow 2 to 3 months!

I would like to go for 2 months but my business would suffer. 5 weeks will be stretching it. The states closest to us (Oregon) we have spent some time in and can easily see more of them in the future. Louisiana, Florida and the mid west is where we would like to spend our time.

On that time frame I would choose one smaller region to spend time in like southern LA, AL, panhandle of FL, spend a several days snooping around there, line up some most want to dos the rest of the route if time allows, get to your destination and concentrate on other areas on your way home.
The best news is during the trip you can take note of areas you wish to return to next time or places you don't feel are interesting to you.
