I have a 12 ft porta bote that sits on top of the truck. I am planning to stop at Dragon Lake for about a week to fish and explore. DW wants to see Barkersville. Thanks for all the good info more is always appreciated.

The first couple of times that I traveled to British Columbia I used single page maps, the sort that you get in AAA atlas of USA and Canada. But since then I've used multipage atlases. There is at least one volume that covers the whole province, available in Canadian bookstores and ferry gift shops. But for real detail, on the order of you will find in DeLourme state atlases, I get several volumes of the Musio Backroads Mapbooks.

However, for research at home, before leaving, online map programs give most of the information that you need. I mainly use Google, which has terrain, satellite views, and streetviews for most paved highways in British Columbia.

For camping, I most use BC Provincial Parks, and their website. You can download pdfs of the individual park brochures with maps. Once I am in BC I stop of visitor centers, and pick up regional maps for the parks, as well as the area guides put out by local chambers.

You can also order atlases and guide books from large online bookstores.

Someone mentioned going to Prince Rupert. The only way of making a loop with that destination is to take the BC ferry from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. Well, you could also make loop via Alaska.

http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/circle_routes/circle_routes_home.htm
outlines 9 circle routes in BC. Visitor centers also have maps of these routes.

DriveBC is the online source for road conditions

In Washington use WSDOT, in Oregon Tripcheck, in Alberta AlbertaAA
