Discovered that truck alternator/battery not connected to trailer when towing. Owners manual says I should have truck battery connecdtion when connected. All other lights work.
No sure how to find which wires in trailer are connections with the truck battery.
What should I check first? Next?

Somebody posted a while back that on some GM trucks the fuse is not inserted by the factory. You might check that first.

Measure the voltage between pins 1 and 4 on the 7-pin round connector on the tow vehicle. The engine will need to be running as most tow vehicles have a relay or solenoid switch that disconnects the trailer electrically unless the engine is running. If battery voltage isn't present, then a fuse is blown or possibly a breaker opened up. Those are easy to fix. If the voltage is there, then the problem is with the trailer wiring.
Here is a good reference:
etrailer.com reference
The problem is most likely a blown or missing fuse as someone already said. If not, get back to the forum and we will figure out what to do next.

What this previously working?
What make of truck? Ford? GM? etc
Not sure about GM but with Ford you'll have a relay to install into your fuse panel.

This should be covered in the Owners Manual. Most likely it needs a fuse installed.

Newer Fords need a fuse and relay dropped in for the battery to start charging.

Thanks for the suggestions. Truck is 2006 Silverado 2500 Diesel. To my knowledge the connection was there with previous trailer.
Hosting sister and hubby visiting from England for another day, then will have time to dig deeper. Have already been looking over the wiring on our 2004 Sunnybrook Fiver to get some clues for where to start looking if voltage is good from truck connection checkup.

You need to look at Stud 1 in your fuse box under the hood on the driver's side(top left when looking from the fender side). It comes with a red plastic dummy fuse in it from the factory. If it has a fuse, check it. I believe it's 40 amp IIRC.
