(FOD = Foreign Object Damage ... Something small and insignificant that causes damage, down time, loss that could have been prevented...)
De-watered the Ventura for winter in November and put it in storage. Last week we decided to take it out to exercise it and I watered it up. So far so good. While on our short trip, the water pump stopped pumping. Pump ran but no water. Dang!
I'm thinking a busted diaphragm due to accidental freezing....
Saturday I disassembled half the under sink area to get to the pump. Got the pump out and took it apart. Discovered very tiny shards of poly-tank material jammed in the flap valves, essentially keeping the flapper valves from fully closing.... thus no suction and no pumping. These bits were tiny enough to get through the course screen inside the pump and big enough to jam in the reed valves' valve seats.
I'm delighted to have been able to fix it and save the cost of parts and a 'hand' to get her done. Although spending 3.5 hours folded up in a phone booth sized space was a pain in the tookas!
OK, so you have to use poly tanks and hopefully the builder has taken the time to blow all the chips, curls and junk from drilling the tank. I realize no matter how good you are, cleaning up the tank will be imperfect and there's going to be bits left behind. What really brasses me off is that all this work was unnecessary because the builder did not put a strainer ahead of the pump in the suction line. .... It's 10 buck Shurflo part that screws on to the intake port of their pump.
I'd also have some pithy words with the engineer/designer who put this stinking pump in a near impossible place for maintainability and service.
