Wife and I want a cheap month in Hawaii. Fulltiming for 11 years and never spent more than a week at a time there. To be there for a month it has to be cheap. Want to view the volcanos up close, Maui and Kauai. Usually go to Maui but open to adventure anywhere. 77 years old but do a lot of hiking, photos, metal detecting, snorkleing and nothing. Give me your ideas. Leaving from Las Vegas Feb 16.

Try out for a spot on 50, they film there sometimes. Just send in a video of yourself and see what happens. Maybe you could be Dano's lost father.

"a cheap month in Hawaii..."
Now, there is a contradiction in terms (an oxymoron, if you will) if there ever was one!
But then, I suppose it is all relative.
You could do what I did in the mid-'60s, join the Army and get a FREE trip to Hawaii, and stay for a couple years.
But even that wasn't "cheap".
If there was a truly "cheap" way to go, DW and I would be on our way! Even using military retiree benefits, it is still too expensive!

Had property there. You have to go deep into the bowels of the little towns to stay and eat. Far far away from the tourist area you will see almost normal prices for everything, but don't expect the locals to fawn all over you like they do in the designated tourist traps.

if you want real volcanoes that spew lava then you need the Big Island, if you just want really really tall mountains that are dead volcanoes then Maui. If you want quiet, Kauai. If you want too many tourists crowding our your time, Waikiki

But yeah, nothing is cheap in HI, they have to ship almost everything. Even Pineapples from Costa Rica and Mac nuts from Indonesia etc. Coffee however is good if you find real Peabody (but it ain't cheap).

However I sure could spend alot of time on Maui or Kauai, so darn pretty!

We have settled on Kauai as our main island, we are not there for the hollywood beaches and styles just the weather and ambiance. We rent a fully contained 2 bedroom condo across the beach from Dukes for $69.00 a day.Flights are as cheap as you can get them, fresh fruit and veggies daily, cheap and good golf, fish many places, bbq at the beach most days.Fresh coffee from the plantation.Blue Hawaii chopper tours into the extinct volcanoes. We fly direct to Kauai.Shopping for a rental car is a challenge.Food there is cheaper then at home.

When we were Maui in '10, we saw nice fully equipped apartments for rent for $1500 for a month.
We really are considering doing that. The food costs were not as high as some would think if you do some shopping and eat meals in. It ain't gonna be free- but doable.

Pack some camping gear and go tenting. It's Hawaii, get close to nature!
