Leaving Pittsburgh, Western Pa in a couple of weeks for Ft Myers. First trip. Looking for advise on the best way South. Google says I-79 to rt19 to I-77 around Columbia SC to I-26 to I-95 around Jacksonville Fla to I-10 to rt 343 to Stark, on south to I-75 into Ft Myers.
Not looking for fastest, cheapest, or shortest route, just your experience on the best route.
Thanks in advance.....

I prefer the I-79, US19, I-77, I-26, I-95, FL200, US301, I-75 route and do it often.

That's exactly the route we took when we came back from PA last year. The only difference is that we stay on US301 all the way to Tampa. If you are not in a hurry. Watch for the speed trap in Lawtey FL. Once you're close to Tampa, take W. Fowler Avenue (SR582) to connect with I-75 south. We have a Class A and tow a truck. There are small towns on US301 and slower speed limit but less stress than I-75. Maybe our bad luck but seems like always a wreck and backup on I-75 in FL.

I've often taken that route from Buffalo. But, I like the ride through the Oconee Forest. So, I take I-20 west to GA. Hwy 44 (Greensboro Exit) and head south to Eatonton, Ga and Hwy 129 to I-75 in Macon. It's a welcomed 1 1/2 hour break in Interstate driving. There are some inexpensive forest campgrounds in the area within a 4 to 5 hour drive to either Tallahassee or Gainesville/Ocala.

We have taken the Tom N for the last 4 years, Plan on going thru Charlotte & Tampa area at non-rush hour times. I-77 in Charlotte gets really crazy, and the same in Tampa area. Do not speed on 301 in Florida, the speed limit changes often and the police watch those areas. I-77 in West Virginia was being worked on when we came down in October. It is approximately 1,000 miles from the Burgh to Tampa and probably another 150 miles to Fort Myers. FYI today it is supposed to be in the high 70's in Tampa area and about 3 degrees higher in Fort Myers. Have fun and come on down!!

OK, thanks everyone.
I will give Ton N's route a shot using Fl200 & US301.
Keeping a eye out for ol Buford T Justice, aka Jackie Gleason down thru the little towns on 301...
It was 60 degree's in Pittsburgh today, but then last Friday night into Saturday we got 1/2" of ice with 4" of snow on top. It won't be 60 again till April.

There's a NEW bypass around the WEST side of Charlotte.

North of Charlotte take exit 19 I-77 to I-485 west. Comes out south of Charlotte 2 miles north of the SC state line. I-485 is 6 lanes and very lightly traveled.
