2000 Coachmen DP sportscoach
When I connect to shore power the batteries won't charge, no power to the coach. Where do I start? The batteries are 5 months old, I am cleaning the terminals, do they have to be connected for the shore power to work? The generator will not continue to run when the engine is not running.

Using a volt meter, start at the pole!
If you have power there, move on to where the shore power cord is wired in to the converter. Just like water, follow the flow to the point you have no flow, and that is your problem.

find a good RV Shop and have them walk you through the coach's electrical.

Is the battery disconnect switch on? Check for open DC fuse or breaker.

Check pedestal with known good appliance sush as drill to verify power is heading tpward coach. Check all adapters if any are being used.
Check for 120 volts AC at your main breaker or buss in the AC power dsitribution panel.
Check the automatic transfer switch if equipped.
If not confortable with working with power, get some qualified help!

If the batteries are good (5 mths old doesn't mean they are OK) and charged (use auto charger) then start by checking voltage from a good clean frame ground and the positive battery post and continue to the DC load center until you find the open.

Do you have 12V power w/o shore power? If not I'm suggesting you start with known good batteries and fix that problem. The fix may resolve the charging problem.

The gen problem is likely unrelated as it sounds like the battery isolator is providing DC power to the gen (and likely other house circuits).

At the risk of insulting your intelligence.... did you check the main breaker at the pedestal?

Thanks for all your input, looks like the reset on the inverter was tripped.
