Hi folks.
We just got a new 2012 Wrangler for our toad.
Just got the base plate installed and the electrical actually works.
1st chance to tow next week.

So I was practicing shifting the jeep and found it was very difficult going from the N position (tow position)back to 2wd high. (transfer case) I was afraid to break something. (Auto trans was in N as instructed) Eventually got it there. The next time I tried going from N to 2 high no problem.
Am I missing something?

Normal, don't worry about it. The transfer case gears don't have syncro like a transmission so they don't always go into gear cleanly.

Probably not. Sometimes there just seems to be a bind somewhere that makes it difficult, then for a long time there is no problem.
I don't know why it happens.
I have found, though, that when it won't go from Neutral to 2 hi, it helps to go to 4Lo, then back to 2 hi.
Again, I don't know why.
Yes, it could be gear tooth alignment. That could be why putting it in 4Lo sometimes helps.
Sometimes, the more miles the Jeep has the easier it shifts, as things loosen up.
Have fun with your Jeep.

On my '08 Wrangler I have found that when it is a bit "tight" moving the transfer case back to 2hi letting it to roll a few inches lines the gears back up for a smooth shift.

In addition to the above suggestions (particularly moving the Jeep slightly which usually works for me).
Someone recommended this manuever if it still doesn't shift -
start the engine with transfer case and transmission in N. Shut off engine. Shift transfer case to 2 H and tramsmission into park. May have to repeat the proceedure.
It's the only pain in what is otherwise a terrific Toad.
