I put our truck up for sale on the autotrader. So far I've had 3 folks interested, but with a catch. It seems that Noone wants to bring cash or a certified bank check from your bank too the table anymore.I was offered cashiers check, personal check with ofcourse proper I/D's,wire transfer of money but ofcourse you got to give them your account # and routing #,and last but not least a pre-approved check off their bank for whatever amount we agree on,and they wanted to meet me halfway to do the transaction without even seeing the truck.I can say one thing though. They have been pretty persistent on there calls and emails. And all were within 400 miles of me,or @ least thats what the infromation came back to me once I did some 'extra'checking from the ole computer. But you know that too can be changed from day to day.My D/W says I'm just too paranoid.Maybe so,but not going to be taken for a ride! Now days it pays to be one step ahead and don't fall into the trap.

You could always offer to go to their bank and they can give you "cash" right then and there. Actually, you could watch them get you a cashiers check. That way you know it is legit. Also, if anything needs to be notorized, they usually have a notary there.

A certified bank check and or cash could just as easily be counterfeit as well. May be your wife is giving you some good advice.

Just keep the truck.
Then, when you die, whoever inherits it can deal with the problems of selling it.

But if you are in the buyers bank with them when they get the check, you know it is not counterfeit.

Yep. Do the transaction at the bank, either yours or theirs. And get the bank to confirm the transfer.

I sold my rig on CL. I just said CASH ONLY. The couple that came and looked at it brought a wad with a rubber band around it. They counted it out and I gave them the keys. Just tell them the rules.

You do realize, I assume, that everyone you've ever written a check to has had access to your account number and routing number.

Yes, and that is why banks are always asking for ID. They then write the ID information on the financial instrument. So if you take someones account and routing number, create some counterfeit checks, and write some to yourself, you better be real good at forging ID.

Anyone paying cash for more than a few hundred dollars needs his head examined!
