(With apologies to The Bangles)

Yesterday we left Kino for our annual trek to Q. Gorgeous day and the traffic was light. The fun began when we arrived at the Army Check point near Benjamin Hill. We pulled up to the Caseta and saw a nice Bluebird stopped on the other side. About 30 Federal Police and a dozen soldiers all wandering around like lost souls. The Feds all were carrying their automatic weapons and some had on those stupid masks. The soldier at the booth told us to wait a little minute. I then spotted one of those Mercedes x ray trucks( a gift from Obama). it was not moving but a bunch of the Feds kept taking turns looking at the inside screen. Then they had the Bluebird move his unit and they drove around it with the X ray rig twice. But not creeping like the Americans do. Instead it was more like out of The Fast and Furious. Again they all did the lookee thing with the video screen. Finally they had us pull forward with 5 other vehicles. Waited another 20 minutes and they drove around twice. I was ready to just take off until I thought about the bullet holes in my rig. After more consultations on the screen one of the soldiers tried to open the permanenet grill on my side rad. When I yelled at him he crawled underneath looking for some secret hideaway. I think they xrayed my rear air tank!! After a total wait of just under an hour we took off. When we got to the turn off to downtown Nogales it was closed! They have added another lane for the trucks and the bypass was blocked. I had to go through that same fenced area that ate my paint last year. But they moved the barriers a little and some one bent the barbed wire supports to the other side. Wasnt too bad but after last year I was nervous. We were sent to secondary and the gal was very amiable. I did learn a new tidbit. You may bring beef back from Mexico. BUT no other meats are allowed. No Pork and no poultry of any kind. She said to me: If it is bird it cannot cross. This is a recent ruling due to avian flu. Also NO CITRUS of any kind as some Asian bug has infected the orchards and it came from Asia to Mexico. I have a feeling most RV's will go to secondary.

Moisheh, you are generally a good contributor to this forum but I do take exception to your reference to "those stupid masks" comment. These people are putting their lives and their family's lives at risk taking on the jobs they do to keep the population and the visitors like us as safe as possible. I apprectiate your frustration but please do not demean what these people do.

The masks might also be there to protect their identity. This is why the soldiers and police wear them when they're involved in any type of activity where they might encounter the drug cartels. They don't want to have revenge carried out of them or their families.

It wasn't just the masks it was the way they way they were conducting business. About as efficient as a team of clowns. No one knew what they were doing nor understood how to do the job. The Federal police in Mexico are normally the one branch of the law for which I have a lot of resepct. These must have all been rookies. I was talking to some of the Mexicans who were waiting and they too were frustrated and shocked at what was happening. Not once was anyone even asked for ID or where we were going?? They wrote down our plate #'s but did not enter the state or country. I never object or complain about being stopped at this check point and have been there dozens of times since this new Reten opened but this was ridiculous.

Someone one wrote me,a week ago or so , asking if I was still alive, being that I had not posted in a long time. This post and the OP´s opinoin of everyone being clowns and this post ... "Yet another Canadian killed in Mexico" is, to me, a very good reason NOT to post on the forum.
Logging off again, back in a year or so....maybe.

Sigh! It is so easy to get cranky at the military yet all too frequently they catch an RV with drugs or guns stashed in it. I know of several cases over the years where an RV was burglarized and firearms taken.

We encounter a bunch of bored kids at these sites, who are praying that someway, somehow, can intercept guns or drugs and break the monotony of the day.

I'd rather endure a Mack Sennett type search than a hardcore US Customs search any day.

Moiseh,

I am curious as to how you know what they were doing or trying to do and how you know that they were not doing exactly what they wanted to do? Is there a procedure you know of they are supposed to follow? I don't know what they do or why. Could you explain what they were supposed to be doing and why they were doing it improperly? More details about this would help us to understand. I am completely lost by the wording of your postt.
