Not sure the wind chill had any effect on it
I always plug her in this time of year. Speaking of which how are those oil pan heaters working out IB?

Best thing to do is when you cant plug in and the temps are really below zero is to cycle the glow plugs twice for 30 seconds each and on third try start the truck...

Just used the remote and let the computer decide the rest.

Not bad. It's undersized for the application (their webite says it's only good for 3-6 quarts). I also didn't mount it in the best possible position.
The instructions said to put it on the bottom of the oil pan (of course), but as you know, with the drain plug in the center of the bottom most portion of the oil pan, I didn't feel there was adequate room there. It could have fit, but it would have had to "roll up" slightly on the edges to follow the contour of the oil pan, and that is just asking for a weak adhesion spot to begin to have it peel off. So, I stuck it on the side of the deep part of the oil pan - I figure that is where all the oil sits when the engine isn't running anyway.
It's still stuck on there, and it still gets mighty hot when plugged in. I figure it has to be helping, though I really have no way to measure that.

No bragging, no excuses
When I think what cold starts at that temp, were like years ago...technology has changed things for the better.
I don't think many people on this web have experienced how cold it can be at - 35 or colder. Where I live, I've have experienced extreme cold like this too often....it's no picnic for man or machine.
