Highway 12 from Missoula,MT to Lewiston, ID.
Actually I am coming out of Phoenix,AZ. I will be towing a boat behind my rig and trying to get to Joseph, OR. and Wallowa Lake. I have a cousin who will meet us in Lewiston and pull the boat back to Joseph. I can legally double tow in AZ,NV,UT,MT and ID but not in Oregon. I have double towed the boat to Oregon the past two years but usually go into Malin where I have B-n-Law where I leave the boat then go back for it.
This year planning to do something different and have family in Missoula so thinking that way?? Just wondering about this one stretch of highway?
Thanks

The Lolo is an amazing stretch of almost never ending twisty - curvy mountain tarmac best suited for motorcycles on a sunny day. RV's go it all the time, but it's much more fun with a sporty vehicle than a lumbering beast.

Don't think it's too great an idea to double tow on the Lewis & Clark Highway, at least the section between Kooskia ID and Lolo MT. This is a long piece of road that is curvy and doesn't have many passing zones for vehicles following you to safely pass. Be prepared to use the turnouts along the road so traffic doesn't back up behind you too much. As ArcticDodge noted, this is a beautiful road to drive and there are many interesting sights, just take your time if you do decide to drive it! Have driven that highway many times over the past fifty years, but never towing anything.

By "double towing", if you mean RV and boat there is no problem. That highway is absolutely drop dead gorgeous to drive even though it can be pretty curvy in spots. The only problem I ever had driving it was forcing myself to pay attention to where I was driving, not to what I wanted to look at.

You should have no problems other than possibly stacking traffic up behind you. Idaho has a 3 vehicle rule, when posted, which most roads like that are. If you pass one of the turnouts and don't pull over and allow ALL the traffic behind to pass, the ISP can and will get nasty if they see it. Other than that, it is an enjoyable ride through there.

Nice ride but yes, lots of curves. Gorgeous scenery. Be sure your TV is in good running order - LONG distance between service stations.
Apparently the guy we were stuck behind when we did this stretch in '09 was not aware of the "3 vehicle rule."

You are following a river all the way across Idaho, from its headwaters, to the Snake River. Lewiston is the lowest point in Idaho, and due to dams and locks on the Columbia and Snake, a seaport.

It's a nice drive, by car or RV. Take your time and pull off often if you can. I love that stretch of road.
