Why not use the supercharged or turbocharged 3.8 V6 from the late 1980's Buick Regal GNX? Those were pretty fast cars in their day, faster than a similar year Corvette. I think that engine would be great in a Camaro/Firebird from the same vintage.

So did GM! The 1989 Turbo Trans Ams had tweaked turbo Buick engines! Laughably underrated at 250HP, they would handily dust a same-year Corvette.

Whisperride, we are from the same mould.
I built this vehicle up a number of years ago.
Project Car
Major body mods and a whole new drivetrain (mostly Boss Mustang). The car got a 9" nodular Ford rear end, 302HO V8 and a T5 manual tranny.
Anyway, we have a towing specialist in the area and I once saw a Camaro convertible (same vintage) as your TA leave his lot with a large TT in tow. Unibodies are much more capable than most folks think. The key is in the hitch/receiver design. The towing specialist also spoke of a late 60's Hemi Cuda that he set up for towing a TT. Fun Fun Fun. Best of luck with your project.
PS... A buddy has been running a 34Ford roadster with a Super Charged GM V6 for about 20 years now. Lots of power but you wouldn't like the gas mileage...LOL
PS2... You are going to end up with quite a heavy vehicle with a heavy drivetrain. Not sure you will be happy with the low tech V6 HP. A pal just put a late model Caddy Northstar V8 in his Jeep. It works!
Airstreams.... the best towing trailers on the planet!

Great link, that Pacer is awesome! Thanks.
If mine scales less than 4,001# with the cage, the hitches, the Dana, the dually setup, me, a full tank of fuel, the Olds diesel 350 and the turbo, then I'll be happy.
Even 5 years ago, I would not have tolerated anything less than a 383 for this project, but I no longer drive fast. If you want to do this for real towing, then I'd start with a '94-'02 Z28. The T56 would be great.
More pics will follow, especially once I get my tax refund.

'84 Trans Am 6.2 diesel, 700R-4, custom Class-3 receiver
'69 F350 dually. GM 6.2 diesel, turbo, 700R-4, NP208 all pending.

Hate to see a Buick GNX broken up for it's engine...unless this limited #'s car was a total write off.

Thanks! I will.
I wish to note my thinking for not making those extend another inch forward: I feel this is necessary to make removal possible, after tacking it together, for the full-welding.
Today I'm cutting the tail-tube, then clamping it under the cross-tube. That will let me mark the back wall of the trunk, so I can see exactly where to drill / cut.
