Just finished installing a 5th Airborne pin box on my trailer. Bought a new capture plate for my Pull Rite hitch that's made for the 5th Airborne. The problem is when hooking up my trailer the hitch won't lock now. Tried rocking the tuck on the hitch, raising and lowering the trailer to the hitch and other things trouble shooting it and can't get the hitch to lock. Took the head off the hitch and slid it on the pin while holding it and it works fine. All measurements on both the old and new pin box are the same. I can't see where there are any adjustments to be made on the hitch. What am I missing here?

I'm guessing the thickness of the capture plate is preventing the hitch from locking. I would call the SG and FA folks and speak with their technical reps.

How low did you go? Try at least an inch low so it must ride up.

No idea what the "TUCK" is you're talking about. But consider before backing the truck in, try lowering the pin box enough so it rides up the ramp in the hitch plate. And don't be too gentle when backing in. The hitch needs a good controlled "crash" to make things hitch.
If you can move the capture plate backwards, it might give you a little more clearance from the key. And may help the jaws close around the pin. But this could be the last resort. Try other recommendation first.

Is the adapter plate a universal or custom plate. If universal the dealer may not have installed it correctly.. Had this happen to me.. Ended up drilling and tapping hitch to install plate to hitch...

I have the same exact set up with no issues.. My bet is the capture plate is hanging up or installed wrong.. Maybe its too low ? Joe

Do you have one of the slick discs installed? If so, remove it.
I do find that the height can be critical, a lot touchier then any other hitch system I have ever used before.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

It is the custom capture plate for the pin box....tried the controlled clash, not my first time with the Pull Rite, been having it on my truck with the stock pin box with no problems...new capture plate can only be installed one way as I said it was made for the Airborne and no slick disk..The capture plate in not restricting anything as far as I see and believe me I crawled around my hitch and looked trying to make it lock...Any other idears?

How do you have the adapter attached? I recall four set screws that come in from the sides and should be just barely clearing the Airborne's plate. I also have two largish bugle head machine-screws that pull the adapter plate tighter into the Airborne plate, but I bought my adapter plate used I don't know if that was a factory thing or not
