The best time for viewing is July/August when the salmon run is happening.

There is no guarantee, but when the salmon are running is the best time. We've always had luck in late August.

We have seen the bears in Hyder in late July and early August. It all depends on the salmon run. In 2008 the salmon run was late and the salmon were just starting up Fish Creek around the 12th of August. In 2005 we were able to see bears the end of July. I wouldn't try to get there before the end of July to see the bears.

I agree with the July/August

But! I really like very late July into August and into early September.

I see your from Avon, Indiana...if you are heading up threw Jasper national park towards Prince George and then to Smithers there is a really good chance you will see bears, Black and Grizz before you reach Hyder

Be Bear smart
Enjoy the surroundings
and
have fun
maybe we’ll see you there I have a Stewart/Hyder trip planned too.

They're all over the place along the western part of Hwy 16 during the late summer and fall.

Probably not see them in Hyder then we will be there early july, but will look anyway. It's our first driving trip into Alaska, allot of planning under way.Are there some "MUST" do things we should look into on this trip.

Thanks to all for the insights

Safe travels to all
