You would want an Exclusionary policy. Everything NOT covered is listed. Anything not listed IS covered. (With maintenance/trim/glass excluded). See if the policy mentions Consequential damages, could be a plus.
Get a sample copy of the policy and read it 5 times. Look on last page to see who are the insurance companies involved. Go to www.weissratings.com to check their solvency. Do NOT use S&P, Fitch or the other two shills.
My guess is that the dealer paid $1500 for the contract. You can bargain down.
See if you can make monthly payments in lieu of an entire up front payment. Might come in handy if things go sour.

FYI, dealers refer to these extended warranties as "ADP", or "added dealer profit".
Caveat emptor, as others have stated; i.e. make sure that what you believe to be covered is ACTUALLY covered, should you decide to go with it.
