Getting a 2011 Thor class B Chateau Citation brand new, Diesel, on Mercedes Sprinter chasis. Comes with standard warranty on appliances. The 7 year warranty covers everything, costs about $2500. Worth it? Is the RV good? Any problems?

If it were me I would buy the extended warranty. For $30.00 a month you've got your backside covered. That as opposed to who knows what could happen, how many times, and what it would cost. Just be sure you are clear on what is, and isn't, covered and how to submit a claim. Misunderstandings are the biggest problem with these programs.

We just recently took dekivery of a new Roadtrek Agile and opted for the extended warranty. We have never purchased an extended warranty but after spending what we did on the Roadtrek, felt it was well worth it. We got the 7yrs/85,000 mile package which the dealer wanted $2500+/-. We originally balked so when it came time for taking delivery, the dealer offered the same coverage for $1375. We took the warranty. Frankly we were considering it at $2500. As was stated by the previous poster, read carefully what the terms and conditons are, because these policies are very explicit. Good luck.

I have always avoided extended warranties on anything I have purchased and have always advised others to do the same. However; when we purchased our latest coach since it was an orphan with no warranty the dealer included the extended in the purchase and we got such a good deal that it made sense. Since then we have saved more than the purchase price of the warranty and still have over 3 years to go. Considering the cost of repairs to an RV the extended warranty looks pretty good to me. If you do purchase one make sure you research the company well. Many of these policies have more holes in them than a block of Swiss cheese.

Just to let you know, your RV is a Class C, not a "B" and you should be posting in the "C" forum, or "General".

My experience with extended warranties they cover nothing. Read the fine print which may require a lawyer to understand what it does say and I am sure you will find it does not cover everything. Put the money in a money market and at the end of the warranty period you will most likely still have money in the account after paying for any problems you have.

Extended warrantires are basically third party businesses. They pay for the out of warranty repairs if any, so you pay for the average not your specific repairs. But they also have overhead and expect to make a profit. YOu pay for all this in addition to the average repair cost.
All in all the average person pays more for the extended warranty than just paying for his/her own repairs. Some win. most lose.

I have had numerous RV's, the latest is a RT, which I purchased new in '05. I have never taken one of those offers for extended warranties. I have put the money in the bank, just in case, and it accumulates today. My research shows like Vegas, they favor the dealer. I have seen, heard and read, far too many stories of folks who have a legimate problem and because it doesn't meet the "real near scope" of the firm, the request is denied. If you are going to devolop problems, it will probably occur in the first year - use it to make sure it is truly functional. My bet is at the end of the "extended warranty period" you will have that money to use for whatever you deem appropriate. Safe travels.

Extended warranties, like service contracts, are a total waste of money for 90-95% of those who buy them. But considering how strongly they are pushed for everything one buys, someone is making big bucks from our naivete.

We have only taken out an extended warranty once, on a C5 Corvette I bought used. In the end, we collected on a $600 repair for the $1800 we paid for the warranty. Since that time I've not taken any extended warranty out on any vehicle we've purchased.
My position on extended warranties these days is the same as I've always had on gas/fuel. If you have to worry about the cost of repairs, perhaps you should not own the RV!
