Ok being a Good Sam's Club member and being presented the oportunity to get a discount Gas card from Pilot/Flying J I went to one of there stations and asked to get a application. The young lady said she would take my application right now and proceeded to ask me questions. Among which was my Social Security number and my date of birth. The two leading things that people who want to steal your identity need. I asked her why she needed that info since I was not asking for credit. She said that in a way I would be getting a credit card because they would bill me at the end of the month. I told her I did not want a credit card just a discount gas card in connection with my Good Sam's club membership. I already have enough credit cards. She still needed my private info to fill out the form or it would not go through.
So with that info I called Sam's club and they confirmed what she said.
This does not bode well with me at all. Pilot and Flying J require me to give them private info that anyone of there employees can steal and sell to the professional Identity Theft criminals and Good Sam's Club goes along with it. I feel Good Sam's Club needs to look into this real soon.
Based on the way I was treated when I called Good Sam's Club to let them know what Pilot/ Flying J required I decided I was better off without Good Sam's Club and stopped my membership right than. Be very carefull about giving private info to people who are not justified in receiving it and companies who tell you it's ok as if you were senile or a child.

I was attracted by the term "Discount card". I started reading the online info and it didn't take me long to figure out that it was a credit card. So much for that. No thanks!

I already have their RV discount card and use my discover to buy fuel so I get 1% back on that. When I saw someone else wanted my info, I declined. No enough difference for me to put my info out there for someone else.

Pilot / Flying J have a frequent fueler RV card as well as the new fuel credit card. The frequent fueler card is not a credit card but does allow island pump start and and higher pump dollar amounts. This card does require some personal information but not as much as the credit card.
There are some limitations as far as locations where the card works but I have found the benefits helpful at the locations where the card does work.
Saving the extra walk to the desk, having to prepay a designated amount or leaving a credit cart with the clerk is a nice reward for making Flying J / Pilot my preferred fuel supplier.

I am glade to see others feel the way I did once I found out it was a credit card. I like others do not need another credit card to get fuel. I thank GSC for working out a plan for fuel discount but feel it needs alittle work. Having to many credit cards (at least for me) makes budgeting during a trip harder. GSC no thanks on the fuel card.

The extra walk is good for me since I need the exercise anyway and what I absolutely do not want or need is another credit card.
No way!

I have an old RV Flying J RV card. If yours is old you should re-register your card to get the current benefits.

IMHO, the advantage to this card is for those of us who fill at the truck pumps.
It's not a credit card in the sense that your balance rolls over month to month. The balance is paid or withdrawn each month, depending on how you set the account up.
I have it and my funds are automatically transferred from my bank account each month to pay off the balance.
So, I removed the old frequent fueler card from my wallet, inserted the new card, and the credit card that I normally use to pay for my fuel stays in my wallet. It's easy and frankly, a no brainer.

Good for you Les. It has been proven over and over again that many of these companies trade or loose private consumer information. For the one or two percent savings my personal information is just that 'private'.
