Well, a story about the homeless people next to us. Hubby got to talking to them....and yesterday, the kid said the 2 girls and the 3 year old had left him there without a car. Turns out they are strippers and he had picked them up in Quartzsite. He had all his stuff out, sleeping bag and all, and was hitching a ride back to Quartzsite.

We have a portable Fantastic fan that we run on low while we sleep. The sound of the fan really helps drown out the background noise including generators.

We love to boondock but with a Class A choices are limited. It's frustrating, we live on 4 acres and my house is quiter than many of the places we camp at.

the only time really that generators bother me is when I'm outside. At the campfire maybe trying to enjoy the fire. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If I'm in my camper, unless they are close, i don't usually hear them, but sometimes I do a little bit.

well, here we are in Lake Mead. A CAMPGROUND. Not boondocking or in a place where there are hook ups. But...generators abound. I never have seen anything like this in my life. I suspect that it's all snowbirds. They watch tv at night, and have the generator going in the morning for their hair dryers.

I can't wait to go back to washington state to camp in the summer. no generators.

(ETA thank you for all the ideas and posts!) Sorry I haven't been back on this thread, as I don't get on the internet much as we're busy exploring Yuma. I am beginning to think "boondocking" isn't for me. We're in Yuma now.....the luck of the draw we're camped next to some homeless people. How they get away with this on BLM land, I'll never know. They have two dogs and they are pooin' all over the place (I might report them tomorrow when we leave...yet, again, to find a spot we like) I thought you had to be self contained. but, anywho. Wherever we've been looking (the LaPosa sites, and all the other areas) there have been wall-to-wall RV's. The "day use only" area is empty, but rv's are backed up to them all over. WHERE do you go to be alone? *shrug* Every place we camped, whether HiJolly, or Plomosa, we heard loud generators. We drove around extensively during the day to all the campspots, and they were all crowded with trailers. Not sure where you camp where you don't hear anything lol

We've camped outside Yuma on BLM land since the beginning of January. We've been on 5 different spots, and never had anyone near enough to us to hear anything of note. Do not camp at the LTVAs, do not go where there are already campers in sight of you, and drive more than 10 miles off the interstate. That's what we've been doing, and we've had great luck so far.

I won't take the risk of posting our current location openly on the forum, look out for a PM.....

Bluegypsy (that's the RV's name)

Map shows where we've lived and worked, travelling through doesn't count....

That's why I won't go near places like Q. You either like that lifestyle or you don't. I don't.

X2; we have no understanding of the allure that Q seems to have for so many people. At least you'll never have to worry about us camping near you. Different strokes for different folks.

X3, go somewhere else. altough some folks are pretty regular you also have every low life that can drag some questionable unit near you. Plus not only you can't sleep at night you wonder if you'll ever see your stuff again if you leave camp.

That area gives me the creeps.
