original post Dec. 21
On our way to Florida we experienced a blow out on I-65 just south of Nashville. It took Good Sam ERS 4 hours to respond to our call - we had a tire but it needed mounted on a rim. Also in case there were additional charges they required a credit card. We gave them our Visa number and then they asked for our ZIP - being Canadians we have a 6 digit postal code and they could not handle this.

Good Sam contacted us and have been investigating the complaint. I got a call from them a few days ago saying they were going to reimburse us for the service call for which we had to pay cash. I'm thinking this would be the normal thing to do - why would you pay for road assist if they aren't going to cover the call.

Also, they admitted they would have to look into the problem of not being able to handle Canadian postal codes. There was no offer of compensation for our lengthy wait basically caused by Good Sam's inability to service us as customers, in a timely fashion. We have only used their services 2x in 8 years and expect better from them.

We estimate we have used approx. 90 minutes of cell phone minutes for something that should have been a simple call for tire assistance with a response in a timely manner. I guess we were lucky we were on a major interstate and not in some isolated location in the middle of no where or we might still be there!

We will not forget this experience when it comes time to renew in August.

You should consider using Coach Net as your provider.

Remember, Coach Net is well established in Canada, so they know how to handle your postal codes......... Good Sam ERS is actually a reseller of Allstate ERS, an insurance company. Does Allstate sell insurance or road service in Canada, eh....

I never have or will give a credit card or cash to any wrecker driver when I have Good Sam ERS and it states you never have to pay. They say and will look into your complain but as far as compensation, you'll find no one any where wants to or will give you money for your time/troubles. The main thing is your fine now and problems are behind you so enjoy your winter.

I think it is unreasonable, to blame GS for the length of the wait. Do to the fact of the type of unit that you have, not just any tire shop or hiway service can handle it. There are a lot of variables, to deal with. And then they have to rely on the company they contract to do the job. I am sure they didn't leave you sitting there just for the heck of it. If we can not do a certain job ourselves, and have to depend on many different facits of a service, we will then have to be patient and have faith that it will get done. JMO Macktee

I don't understand the 2 previous posts. When you buy something and expect service why shouldn't you expect it to be handled promptly? That is what you bought. My experience with GS was not so good either. I called on Christmas Day and was told to call back the next day by a recording. I got a refund and have been with Coach-Net since. When I did need service one time it was prompt and very good service. If I have insurance on a MH I would expect them to know how to get ahold of someone who can service a MH.

Twice in eight years, they will probably cancel you for over using it.

We had a similar problem with Sams ERS. They kept us waiting for 2 hours on the side of I-75 and the truck never did show up. I finally changed the tire myself. Sams said they would investigate and get back to us but we never heard from them again, I'm sure we will tho around renewal time.

We may try Coachnet this year since we are moving up to a FW, maybe join the Escapees.

We broke a spring last year. Good Sam ERS kept us waiting 10 HOURS on I-95 for the appropriate rig to load our truck and trailer. A Landall was finally sent from Savannah GA about 50 miles away after 3 other useless trucks were sent from different places. Even then there were issues with being over height limits but they got us to a repair center by 5:30 AM Saturday. The episode started at 5:00 PM Friday and on our first call our rig and problem was clearly and fully described BUT the SPECIALIST with the RV Related knowledge did not do what we requested until 3:30 AM.

Not true. Good Sam service is provided by Affinity Road & Travel Club, Inc.. Have indeed heard horror stories about long waits.

Allstate Insurance offers RV Roadhelp which I have had for 12 years and used 4 times. Excellent, fast service, with 24/7 real person on the other end of the phone. First question out of their mouth is always, "Are you safe?" They even called back and gave us assistance on getting a rental car while the motorhome was in the shop.
