As a family who has over 30 combined years of dealing with dogs either in a veterinary practice or a dog shelter, we know that every breed of dog can bite. We also know that predominately, it is the way the dog is raised that determines if the dog will be aggressive or not. Our family has had large, medium and small dogs. Currently, we have a Boxer, an Australian Shepherd and a Pit Bull/Boston Terrier mix.
We are curious, of those out there in RV land, if you have a Pit Bull (American Staffordshire terrier) or a mix of that breed, how many times have you run into problems having your dog accepted into an RV park.
As an avid RV’er and dog owner who has never been turned away from an RV park, we are wondering how many of you have been.
Also, have you seen this video? In our humble opinion, it rocks!
This is how we roll
We look forward to your feed back!
Happy camping! – Eric and Carol -

I was once questioned because somebody thought my dog "looked" like a PB. I don't know whether she is or not. That was many years ago and I haven't been to a private campground (or been asked such a stupid question) since.
Fasten your seatbelt and put your mouse on the "block user" clicky. They're coming.

We've worked several campgrounds where we've had to refuse people from staying at the campground because they own a dangerous breed of dog. We know there are good and bad but rules are rules and have to be enforced...many times it was the insurance company who dictated the liability aspect so we had to turn people away....also we've had to charge $5 per dog at some campgrounds because some people never pick up poop and the extra fee covered cost of going around picking up poop.

We have pit bulls and weiner dogs, in our case the pits are calmer, and more laid back and are very good dogs but we rarely take the PB's camping because rules are rules. the breed do's have a bad reputation. but I could prove to any of you that mine are very friendly loving dogs, but the damage to the breed is done and that is that!!! That being said we take the weiner dogs camping.

Have never been turned away (one had size limit but let our goldens in).

Have to disagree with you on this point. There is ample evidence that genetics play a significant role in behavior development.
That being said, breed restrictions are overly broad and encompass many wonderful individuals. I don't know what the answer is, but bans seem overly restrictive to me.

The funny ( stupid ) thing is there are breeds that have the potential to be far more aggressive than a Pit, and because they are unknown, they would be let right in.....The PB rule is as stupid as some of the people that own and mishandle them.....

This topic gets beat to death.
Yes there are some 'breed' restrictions at privately owned/operated parks.
Insurance Companies/underwriters place those restrictions due to statistics that show bites per breed and a list is compiled......Pits/Dobies/Rotties/German Shepard/ etc. etc. etc.
Yes.......owners are at fault.
Restrictions are also in place for size of dog......
Extra fees for pets
Extra fees for more than 2 adults
Extra fees for 50A
Extra fees for using electric heaters
Adult 55+
Class A rigs only
No rigs over 10 yrs. old
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
It IS a private business...........just like 'No shirt, no shoes, no service'
'We reserve the right to refuse service'
If you run into ANY business that has 'rules' you don't like then you can choose to spend your monies else where
Enjoy and go camping........
