Thanks for all of the input, will try cleaning the connector and see if that works. I really appreciate all of the responses.

I'd recommend using contact cleaner to clean the plug. Not only does it just clean but it removes any corrosion..etc. Then use a dielectric grease to seal the unit from any further problems. Both are available at any auto parts store as well as Radio Shack.

I've made a couple of post on this before after having a cat start my generator. If you have an outside start switch, it can happen. There was enough dust on my generator for the cat to leave paw prints and if it happens to stand on the start switch, it doesn't take much pressure to hold it down and the unit will start. I placed a cover over the switch to keep it from happening again.
A neighbor told me that he saw a cat run out from under the motorhome in the area of the gen set shortly after it started, so that's why I'm saying it can happen.

My generator did this several times last winter. Then one day I found that the remote start switch inside the RV would not work any longer. I checked everything out and finally had to pull all the wiring from the remote starter switch back to the generator.

That is when I found it... the wire had rubbed on the frame and broke the insulation. Moisture must have gotten in which obviously caused the problem until finally the wire corroded in two, breaking the continuity to the switch.

I replaced the wire and have had no trouble with the generator starting on it's own ever since.

I ride it like I stole it!
.......and I just may have.......

My Onan 7.5K did the same thing to me twice in 7 years on my Excursion while plugged into full 50amp power. Not sure why either.
