Just received an estimate to replace the cooling unit on my Dometic NDR 1292 double door refrigerator - $2200.00 sound right to anyone who has had to replace the cooling unit. Sounds high to me but its the first one I have had to replace so it may be the going price.
Thanks for any input

Looks like they are pricing to replace the complete fridge, not just the cooling unit which would be less than 1/2 the quoted price

Not sure how far you are from Elkhart IN, but I saw new ones there for $1500 at Factory RV Surplus.

Hi,
For that price I'd add a pair of batteries, an inverter, and use a residential fridge.

Replaced my cooling unit this past April under the service contract I have. RV dealer got a rebuilt unit from the RV Fridge Store for $850, and charged 4 hours labor to remove fridge, replace cooling unit and re-install fridge. I think the total bill was $1300, and I paid the $200 deductible.

I'm going to go with Old-Biscuit on this one. The Amish cooling units have been proven to be not only cheaper than OEM replacements but more dependable as well.
