My wife & I are looking at going to RGV to bird watch/photograph.

Looking at these locations:

9 Unique Locations

We have cameras, lenses, tripods. I'm thinking about how to haul it all in and out.

we would like to avoid a lot of walking. What restroom, benches, etc.

Interested in any tips, advise, hats, do's, don'ts, bug repellent, etc.

First time for real "birding".

Thanks for any help!
Pat

One of our favorite viewing spots is Salineno on the Rio Grande River. It is west of Roma off 83.
Good for my DW. She cannot walk far. Places to sit and watch birds up close.

We've done a fair amount of birding at "Attacosta Wildlife Refuge" located about 15 miles north of Port Isabell. You can do it with or without a lot of walking. There is also a 15 mile "bay view" drive that takes you pretty much into the costal back country and there are LOTS of places for viewing shore birds along that drive.

I think Santa Anna Wildlife Refuge and Bentsen Palm S.P. would fill the bill. At the S.P. there is a tram that transports you around and you can get off at various spots - lots of benches and picnic areas. No cars allowed. There is a great bird viewing area at the entrance to Santa Anna also. Lots of orioles and green jays to be seen.
