Heading to Wy. in the spring. Thinking about staying at Long Horn Ranch in Dubois. Did a Rv Review on it, sounds nice. Was wondering if anyone has been there and what did you think. Any other full hookup campground in the Yellowstone,Teton area. RV Review shows very few.
Coulter Bay, inside GTNP, has two campgrounds. One is rustic, but the other is FHU. We camped in the rustic cg last July, but walked through the FHU unit. They were also building more FHU units too.
I'm sure the campground in Dubois is fine, but if you're going to GTNP or Yellowstone, you really should be inside the park. Coulter Bay is close enough to Yellowstone to drive in for day trips. That's what we did. Personally, I liked GTNP much more than Yellowstone. We camped at Gros Ventre, at the southern end, for 5 days and enjoyed the hiking trails in that area.
By the way, if you want to camp at the FHU unit in Coulter Bay you should reserve as soon as you know the dates you'll be there. It fills up fast.
PS: I just remembered, there is a bunch of road construction going on between Dubois and Moran Junction (the entry point to GTNP). It's a long drive from Dubois to the park and with the construction, and long delays, you'll be spending much of your day in the vehicle rather than visiting the parks. We took that route last July on our way out of the park. Believe me, it's a long ride.

Agree. Lots of great, I mean great places to camp from dry, partial, to full hookups, within driving distance of Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons. If you plan to visit both a lot while you are there you will probably want to be closer than DuBois. As mentioned before, Colter Bay is an excellent choice. In West Yellowstone there are several RV parks including a KOA, and Grizzly RV in town. If partial hookups are OK, there's Bakers Hold FS CG - W & E, fits big rigs, just two miles North of West Yellowstone. If you don't mind the driving distance, then DuBois is fine. We stayed at two places there - the KOA and Falls CG on the Togwotee Pass - it's a FS CG with an RV loop that has E but no water. There is a faucet at the entrance to fill up. Then there's Driggs and Victor, Idaho on the West side of the Teton Pass. Victor has a nice little RV park and East of Driggs is Teton Canyon CG - dry camping, isolated, and beautiful. Lots of choices depending on what you want. Oh, there's also Red Rock RV Park North of Island Park, about 5 miles off of the highway to West Yellowstone, but worth it if you are looking for a place to settle for awhile with an occasional trip into the parks.
BTW - profile pic was taken just North of Ashton Hill heading home from West Yellowstone last year.

Most of the area will have many feet of snow still on the ground and occasional new snow accumulation in the spring months. Yellowstone will have very limited offerings until late May early june depending on snow levels.

Time line is around the first to middle of June. Staying in the area for ten days. Looking at Coulter Bay CG with hookups. Any other suggestions or idears?
Dubois is 60 miles south of the Moran entrance to GTNP. And Moran is another 50 miles south of the southernmost point of the Grand Loop road in Yellowstone.
The FHU CG at Coulter Bay is the best for GTNP. For YNP, there are several FHU parks in West Yellowstone. I prefer Grizzly as its 2 blocks from the gate. On my last spring trip, I got there on June 1st. Some patches of snow on the ground in the parks, but the roads were clear. Take clothing for all seasons.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
If you're planning on touring either park from Debois, that's not a very good location for the purpose. Quite a drive over the mountains to get to even the Tetons and you're be a half a day away from ANY of the main attractions of Yellowstone. Better off staying in Jackson (if you need hook ups) for touring the Tetons and West Yellowstone for touring Yellowstone.

I haven't been to Dubois but the closer you get to Jackson Hole the higher the prices will go. In June the days will be mild and cool at night. The TNP is nicer than Yellowstone in my opinion. I am sure most of your traveling will be during the daytime hours but watch out for deer, especially early morning and late evening. They can do a lot of damage to a vehicle.

We were at Longhorn this past summer, had to leave early as our truck transmission acted up. It was a great campground and I would go back. As others have said it is a good drive in to the parks. We are going back this year as my nephew is getting married in Casper in July. This year my wife wants to be closer so we are staying at Colter Bay.
