That was gonna be my suggestion. DH has done that for us a few times. Gets it all set up and then leaves so I can have a nice weekend with my DD and her BfFs. Then when it's time to go home, i pack everything up and DH tows it all home.
I can hitch, set up, and break down camp with a TT easily, but I probably wouldn't feel as confident if I was also trying to watch a 4yo at the same time. That's I i suggest you get your DH to set up. Or you could have someone watch your child while you go set up at the campground. But that's a lot of running around for you.
Oops! just read that you want to go camp 5+ hrs away from home. Since that's the case you're going to have to decide whether you want to tow the trailer, stay in a cabin, buy a tent oooooorrr find a campground a heckuva lot closer to home.

Agree. Camp at a relatively local campground. Have hubby drop the trailer and pick up you and your child at an appointed time that works for his schedule. Also, there are always folks at campgrounds who are willing to assist should you run into any problems, mechanical or otherwise.
Go! Have a good time. Worry less.

Hook-up your TT and go to a big old parking lot, like at a shopping mall, and practice driving and parking that thing. Or go to campgrounds with pull-thrus (my favorite solution). As you can see from the responses to your post, campers are super helpful so you'll have upwards of a dozen helpers once you get to your vacation spot.
I spent almost 3 months camping *all* over USA with my 6 and 3 year old children. It was a trip even they remember. It can be done and is well-worth it. Two tips from those days: It's better to start out early and end the day early with children-focused stops in between; and, Go for the least prep-necessary meals (Hamburger Helper had to have been invented by a camping mom), Remember, no one every said cold cereal and fruit wasn't good for dinner.
Perhaps the most important thing is to just DO IT! Toddlers grow up fast and you never get those years back. Take photos, keep a journal, give lots of hugs, and get wonderful memories. Excuse me, I've got a phone call to an all-grown-up toddler make :-)

My husband took our daughter tent camping when she was 4 and 5 by himself and it was fine. My advice is to plan things for the little one to do while you are setting up and breaking up camp. Whether its a bucket of sand you bring for entertainment or an iPad with a movie or something in between. Involving them is great but there are just some things that are easier without helpers. Then have fun and don't forget the marshmallows.

always remember K.I.S. Keep It Simple. Get a tent, cooler with some sandwiches and drinks, and just go. 4 year old will have time of his life and think your the greatest. Especially if you let him roast his own marshmellows
Sure you could also find a company that will have a camper delivered, set up and ready for you to check it.
