I am trying to find a nice campground near Yosemite National Park. I know all of the CG's in the Park have no hook-ups, so I am looking for something just outside the Park and within an hours drive of all the "goodies" of the National Park. Can anyone recommend a CG? I would like some hook-ups, mostly electric. Thanks

You can try the Yosemite Pines rv park in Groveland, CA. There is a steep grade to get into Groveland called Priest Grade. But it is do-able. The rv park is about 20 minutes to Yosemite entrance. There is Hetch Hetchy reservoir to visit. And the views are spectacular. To bet to the valley is about another 1/2 hr drive.

You might consider the eastern entrance, from highway 120. At Lee Vining, overlooking Mono Lake, there is Mono Vista RV Park. Small, quaint, nice place. An hour or less from the N.P. entrance.

It's been many years since we stayed at the KOA in Coarsegold. I remember it to be a nice campground, well cared for. I looked at recent reviews and they all seem good. Here's the website:
http://koa.com/campgrounds/yosemite-south/
We stayed one night and then camped inside the park for 3 nights and then back out to the KOA for a couple of days. That way our batteries held up while we were in the park. We saw the sites outside of the park while at the KOA.

The only one in the area with which we have first-hand experience is Indian Flat RV Park near El Portal. I would not stay there again.

On Highway 140 the Mariposa KOA has full hookups and is about 45 minutes to the park.

If you are a member of the Escapees, they have a great campground in Coarsegold - Park of the Sierras - but you have to be an Escapee. Beautiful park with great rates - might be worth joining the SKPS just for this park!!!

just remember you have to add at least another 30 minutes from the entrance, to the actual valley floor.
